W3R3 - 15 runs to 10km!

Although it’s still pretty hot, the slight breeze and 10 degree drop in temperature from Wednesday made today’s run a much more appealing prospect. For the first time ever my splits were all over the place - I worried I’d started off too fast to sustain the pace for an extra km so I slowed down, then I realised a 5km PB was in sight so I sped up, then slowed down again so as not to get tired and then ran fairly fast on the final km!

I’m still not doing too well with slowing down but I am getting pretty consistent with my pace, I do a lot of identical consecutive splits and my 5kms are within seconds of each other now - I also ran this 7km at the same pace as my 6km last week. So perhaps I need to stop fighting my body’s natural pace.

Today I ran 7km exactly in 51:56 at a pace of 7:25/km.

I haven’t run now for three weeks due to the heat, I’ll wait a few days more as I need to do a few exercises before I run again, and it’ll be a ‘how far can I run today type jog’. I expect my splits will be all over the place but I run according to my heart rate, so I’ll see how I get on. Happy 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Thanks Dave! Good idea to avoid the heat, it’s been hard work this week. I’m so impressed by everyone measuring their zones and VO2 max, I don’t have that technical a watch but I am tempted!

I have a Garmin Forerunner 45 Plus that I’m happy with as it covers running, cardio, walking & cycling.

My husband has the same (he’s a marathon runner), think I might need to treat myself!

Great run once again, don’t overthink it as you are working towards your 10k, just go out and enjoy the run. Happy running 🤗

Try to keep the long run at easy conversational pace (apart from the final km). 😊

Yes, I keep checking I can say the sentence out loud on one breath as I go round, probably gets me some funny looks!

Haha, I sing along with my music, so probably get even more funny looks, especially when I’m singing in Spanish😂

I know it's hard to keep those legs from literally running away with you. Well done for getting out there.

Well done!

My preferred running temperature is about 12°C, and it's still warmer than that.

Yes, I couldn’t get out early today so it was 19C when I set out, a big improvement on earlier in the week but still a lot warmer than I’d like!
