I actually thought I was coming home to celebrate with you all I had ran my first HM !!!
I loaded my stats, done my stretches, drank my water.. my legs are a wobbly mess.. I txt and attach said stats to my daughter to tell her her her Mammy just ran her first HM..
How I could have cried when she pointed out a HM is 21.1K ..
I know this!!! π¬πOf course I know this..
But I don't know I somehow messed up at the end and when my Garmin said 20.01 K I thought I'd done it ππ€£π€£π€£
Gutted is an understatement, but.. on a positive note.. what a run!!
I'm super proud of myself, mentally and physically hard work on the last 3K and I really don't know if I had it in me to carry on that other K if I had to..
But that's another challenge for another day π

Heh, congratulations, that's a massive achievement, 20+km's, who cares about the extra one and a bit, and look how long you were running, i'm really chuffed for you, dont know about HM, reckon you'll be do a full one soon!!!! π₯³π₯³π₯³π₯³
Massive congratulations on running over 20km, my heart goes out to you that is was only 1k short of half marathon but brilliant effort non the less. Happy running π€
Thanks Grannyhugs..I can laugh about it now... Will give me something to keep aiming for x for now I plan to take it easy till my 10K race ππββοΈ
I know you would and telling people you nearlyβ¦.. doesnβt have the same ring does it? but next time for sure and i just spotted how many calories you burned wowee!! π
Oh Soarky! I feel for you π. But that is such an achievement in and of itself, you should be so proud. Youβll do it next time, thatβs for sure. I only just about managed 10k today, was struggling, so the thought of 20.04 makes my eyes water π¦. Well done π.
At least your next attempt at the HM will be well within the 10% rule, and you know you only have another 9 minutes of running to do on top of what you've done today.
You've done the run I haven't yet. I got to 18km, then was attempting 20km the next weekend, and had everything seize up on me when the run got interrupted.
Don't knock it! 20km is a great achievement, as is being able to run for 2ΒΎ hours. π
I've done that one too! I recently went 10 β 12 β 15, quite a bit more than 10% per week. However, I have also been covering a similar distance (15km) in the shorter runs during the week, so you could argue the total weekly increase is much less.
I really ought to progress 16.40 β 18.04 β 19.84 β 21.83, but the temptation of doing that extra 1.1km and exceeding the 10% rule a little just that once is very high. (eg. 16.4 β 18.5 β 21.1) The day I seized up I'd only done 14km out of a planned 20.
Ooh why did you seize up? Have you worked it out? Not enough water maybe? That must have been difficult.. the thought of having to walk all the way back π£
It was tight hamstrings and glutes from doing mostly deskbound work.
A couple of weeks later I had to see a physio because I had developed a groin pull, which turned out to be linked. The pull was due to my adductors being used disproportionately in compensation for the tight hamstrings.
I've been working on this aspect over the last month.
I had to concentrate on my posture a lot today, learned from my previous 10Mile runs that staying focused on my form is a must! Could feel my back and neck ache towards the end. Mostly trail running I do so I have to make sure my chin is leading my chest as much as possible.. difficult while watching foot placing!
Excellent run and time for you sparky66, before a milestone run such as 10K, 10 miles, half or full marathon a runner should check on Google what the exact distance is in kilometers if they are using that measurement for distances, you ran extremely well and you should be very proud of yourself π.
Brilliantβ¦well doneβ¦that is a long wayβ¦you should be super proud of itβ¦.bet your daughter is super proud of you ππ» You were almost there so youβre a HM runner in my eyes!
Just do it again, you've got it in the bag. That was a good training run. It could've been worse. I once figured out I was out there longer than expected. And I was. I passed 24km not noticing, lol.
I'm a 56 year old ex-heavy smoker who couldn't 'run' for 90 seconds. Less than 5 years after quitting nicotine I got to the stage of introducing a half marathon as my weekend routine (unless life interferes). Hence 'you have got it in the bag and just do it again'. π You did 20? You've got it nailed mate. π
Good run! So you have done your 20k π today. Next challenge is half marathon-you've got this!!!Totally understand your frustration-I would have been so cross with myself, but if someone had said a few months ago that you would run 20k today I bet you wouldn't have believed them.
You be ultra proud of what you have achieved sparky. Ok, it may not be 21.1k but it is brilliant all the same. Youβll do it next time I can guarantee.
Oh bless! You are not the first and won't be the last. Blame it on oxygen depriva- all going to the legs and none to the brain! But what a fabulous run. You now know you can definitely do it. Rest well, let all theose muscles recover and strengthen and when you're ready that HM will be yours. While you wait make sure you celebrate because you just ran over 20k - not many people can say that!!! Say it loud and proud!!!
Thank Linda, I've just finished my workout and all feels great πͺBring it on π₯
What an amazing feat to run 20k. Well done! I can feel your disappointment but you will do that 1/2 marathon and you'll be ready for it when you do. Well done again x
Well done for even getting that close! ( I reckon you would've done that last km if you knew). My training plan is to hit the HM run distance on the 14 August...
I know you are really disappointed, but wow , 20k. What a massive achievement. I have never ran that far. What you have achieved is awesome πππππ
