An eventful run

It's been a while since I ran after my GP thought she could up my BP meds and get my levels normal. But I ended up with feet that were too uncomfortable to stand on and not enough breath to walk let alone run.

So after a couple of weeks to recover by returning to my old dosage I decided it was time to get out there again.

I set off and was just settling in to my pace down the track when something white whizzed past me. Yes, you've guessed; it was my escaped dog. How she got through the 15cm gap under the gate is beyond me - she certainly had very muddy elbows and tummy.

She's not old enough to come with me yet (although I can't imagine her cooperating and not stopping all the time when she is old enough). So I had to run back home with her and set off again.

Then after another couple of kms my lovely Singapore family video called - so I stopped for chat while I watched the hares run around ahead of me. Little granddaughter thought it was very funny that the dog escaped because it reminded her of Peter Rabbit.

But I did get out there. Timings weren't accurate but I'm not too bothered and I got to 4k before I decided to call it a day.

I'm glad to hear you're feeling more like yourself and well enough to get out and it sounds like great "getting back to it" run. Technology is so amazing isn't it that you can talk to your family in Singapore while out on your run and get to watch Hares ☺️👍What a scamp your dog was 🤣 if they are determined they can get through the smallest gap when they want to .

Haha - I'm now trying to work out a practical way to make it more difficult until she grows a bit more.

Do you check your BP before and after a run? I have occasionally as I have high systolic and low diastolic. I also run according to my heart rate during the run.

I haven't so far. I try and do it at my calmest moment in the day to try and get it as near to normal as possible. Do you see much difference between the pre and post?

It goes up but not alarmingly. There are several articles on Google about blood pressure and running as well as other activities. I wanted to check mine to see what the reading was after my 5 minute cool down walk.

I might check pre and post in the future. Running is supposed to lower BP but I've been running for years and it's still high even with all the meds.

It’s something you can talk to your GP about too for reassurance if you wanted to.

I have a Garmin Forerunner 45 Plus which gives me my heart rate during my runs, and I run not according to my time and pace but to my heart rate, particularly towards the end of the run which is slightly inclined and I’m getting tired.

I also use a chest heart monitor and do the same. I can manage my heart rate quite well but BP is unknown.

I’ve posted something on Bridge to 10k on heart rate training you might like to read.

Never mind blood pressure, your pooch is heart breaking! Don't tell my cat.

Our poor cat gets licked until she can't bear it any longer. This naughty dog is just too loving! And she couldn't bear to be left behind. I've always left her in the house with hubby before but this time I left her at the gate.

Dogs are accomplished escape artists. Our Labrador delighted in squeezing through any gap in the hedge then being brought back by the neighbours.

Haha looks like I've got one like that too. The space she got through was tiny - it must have been really uncomfortable for her - lucky she didn't get stuck or I jure herself.I hope she'll be able to come with me in a couple more months.
