Disappointed

Planned 11k this morning...increasing each long run again. Thought I'd try and do it faster as I don't do the strength training in-between runs. After every k run my watch told me I'd done it in 7. 50 or something, so was chuffed to think I'd done it under 8/k. Disappointed to see on activity recorded that it had the pace at 8.01/k.....how does that happen?

There are differences in gadgets so you need to stick to one throughout your training to get accurate readings you can measure. A more technical person can tell you why this happens but all I know is that it does ☹️

I can understand your disappointment but let’s focus on the fact you just ran 11.33K!!!! That’s brilliant 👍

The longer runs will result in speedier times eventually as your body gets stronger and your stamina improves.

But keep doing what you’re doing! You’ve just run 11.33K!

Thanks for the reminder 😀😀

You ran 11K! Don't mind the stats, the distance is what counts. And it's not like you were slow, slow is what I do 😂

Yeah, I do rate distance much more than speed most of the time, just thought I ought to stretch myself a bit more....

Did you time any warm-up walk too?

What do the splits/laps look like on the app? (The arrow pointing back at itself icon in the image.)

Don't know how to show them all, but I think the warm up couple of minutes must be included as the first one was 9 something...

Sorry, not good at attaching...

Some of the splits were slower (and you probably didn't notice them), and some were faster. That's perfectly normal for a longer run.

One day I'll get an average less than 8!

Don't ever let yourself het bohhed down in the stats, times, speed etc. Run because you can 👍 and btw you did and it was spectacular, enough said 🥳

Well done on a summer 11k, keep the speed runs for cooler days. Happy running 🤗

Thanks grannyhugs, tbh it was only about 13 so not super hot...but you're right, there is always autumn and winter.

Sadly I suspect there may be a few chilly days in summer too😂

So true....I've been watching Wimbledon under a quilt with a hot water bottle the last 2 days...unbelievable.

22 deg here, that’s to keep us all in our own homes, I stay beside the area with the highest record breaking numbers of covid cases in Scotland

Ooops. At least we can get out and about here...apparently low numbers in the east, probably because half the catchment area in the north sea!

Fantastic 11K 👏👏👏I understand your frustration with stats.. I once ran an extra K because I realized I hadn't restarted my Garmin after a water break 🤣

But your body has registered every step 👍💥🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏅

Very true, I hope it remembers that I did put in a bit more effort! Think it included the warm up walk minutes so that increases the pace/k.

11k is 11k and is to be celebraayed. Without the warm up you were under the 8 minutes. Be happy 😊I just want to add some caution to your logic ... the strength training is advised so that your body is strong enough to manage the long slow runs as you increase distance. Strength training and slow pace are both designed to protect you. By running the long run faster, without strength training, you are putting yourself at greater risk of injury twice over! Some people can get away with it, but is it worth the risk? Save your speed and pace watching for your shorter runs and stick to a slower than normal pace for the long runs and you will be in a much stronger position. I have too much experience of the IC - it's no fun 😍
