Disappointed with Sports Direct

I bought size 7 Karrimor waterproof trail shoes 2 weeks ago from Sports Direct. I had to go to 2 branches to find them and neither branch had size 8 in stock, so I tried a size 8 in a similar style and same make. It was huge. Bought 7s, came home put them on and thought I really need to try 8s. Ordered them from the internet intending to keep the best size and return the others. Size 8 where the ones I decided were best.

Checked the receipt, 28 days for returns. Drove over to Manchester today to return them. They only do exchange (they can’t exchange them for size 8, they don’t have any in stock) or credit note. There’s nothing else I need to buy at present from Sports Direct. There are bills to be paid which I would like to put the money towards, but they don’t do refunds, it’s against their policy.

So here’s a warning to other potential customers. Just so you know. I can’t recommend Sports Direct. I’ll happily recommend Decathlon though.

I’m going to wear my lovely clean size 7s to the office and keep the muddy ones for running in.

Whoa really Baddie? That’s not good customer service. Were they in the sale, because sometimes sale items have restrictions on returns. Otherwise I don’t see why they wouldn’t refund you if you were within the 28 days. 😡

Sadly, if you just change your mind you have no rights to a refund, but many shops do for good customer service. That is where sports direct differs - they don’t care about customer service in my experience. I would have thought they should try to get Baddies size though.

Hmmm, that’s so unfair. I guess it’s because I used to live in the States where the customer literally can do no wrong!

Their policy is not to. You don't expect that these days though. A lot of their staff are uninterested and unmotivated too. There was a lady fuming in there today because the assistants were spending their time talking to each other and ignoring the customers. I do wonder what they are like to work for. Nothing like having your hands tied to de-motivate you. I felt sorry for the store manager today.

There was one lass doing a brilliant job of cheerfully serving 3 people while her colleagues were chatting. I wish she could run the chain!

Bless her. I hope she gets recognition for that. Probably not. Well I won’t be shopping there, that’s for sure. Sorry that you had to experience their shocking customer service though Baddie. 👎

It’s worth checking Baddie, but I think if you’ve bought over the internet you have greater rights to return and gain a refund. If you’ve still got all the paperwork do check the returns policy. Totally agree about sports direct and would never buy something as important as running shoes from them as the staff aren’t trained well enough.

Sorry, just reread your post and realised you bought them in the shop. Can they not order the size 8s so that you can exchange them later?

None left. They suggested I take my credit note and go home and order them online. I could see that going wrong so asked them to check and there are no more size 8s.

Sports direct are terrible for doing this !

I had a similar experience with Sports Direct and it made me vow never to buy anything there again. But....I got my trail shoes at a great price eventually using my credit note. And although I wouldn't bother trying to get advice there I would consider buying gear there again but I'd be sure to try everything on and be absolutely sure before parting with my money. Much as I dislike the way they do business the prices are too good to ignore and the shop is reasonably handy for me! I still feel grrrrrrrrr at them though haha!

So do I

I just found myself looking up 'how to talk like a pirate' in order to see if there was anything more apt than grrrrrr for you to use. I think I have too much time on my hands. I'm going to switch off the computer now and go and do something useful! haha!

Now if the shoes were damaged they would have to give you a full refund, assuming that you have the receipt.

Are they faulty in any way?......

BaddieThePirate profile image

No they are lovely and perfect and just not quite big enough to run in. Fine to walk around in at work though.

We have had posts about this before... I did argue my case in Sports Direct in Porthmadog... and I did get a refund... I think because they were cheesed off with this mad old woman creating a large queue behind her!! I can be quite determined. !

That’s really rubbish service but sadly am not surprised. I must admit that I am really cautious at sports direct when buying things as their customer service is so shocking. I try to avoid the place if I can.

I'll be doing that now.

But thumbs up for Decathalon. My new favourite shop. 💗

BaddieThePirateGraduate10 in reply to Wimborne

Absolutely! I've bought everything from Decathalon apart from shoes. Even yoga trousers for sleeping in. Really comfy and warm. I found an excellent running bra in the gym section too 👍

It's so difficult to find ones that fit properly and do the job you want it to

Looked in to calling Sports Direct. They advertise an 08 number, ie you pay for the privilege of speaking to them. Found an 03 number online which goes to a recorded message saying ‘unfortunately our phone lines are currently unavailable. We are working to have this resolved as soon as possible ‘
