My preparation has begun for the Brighton 10k (BM10k)

The actual race isn’t until the end of September but it’s the only race I’ve entered this year. I do hope it goes ahead. There are still places available believe for the 10k race. I wonder if anyone here is also entered? It would be great to catch up with some HU VRBs pre or post race.

Today I ran a steady 8k to Hove and back. The weather was really strange today, humid and misty, and there was a spooky fog hanging around the pier.

The sea was as still as I’ve ever seen it and looked as flat as a park lake. The wake of the sea swimmers could be seen trailing behind them for quite some distance, and it was clearly a great day to be out on a speedboat or jet ski, judging by the speed of them skimming across the water! 😮

Anyway the run itself is always really enjoyable as it is all along the sea front and there are many sights to behold and music, skating, singing and a holiday feel which brightens up the day. Lots of tourists to dodge round but that’s ok. I try to keep my distance and usually judge it quite well. I wore my Nike Invincibles for this run as my legs needed a softer ride than in my previous runs this week. These shoes are just perfect for recovery running and for those days when an easier, more gentle run is needed. No records broken today of course my splits were quite even at 5.41, 5.39, 5.40, 5.32, 5.29, 5.27, 5.07 and 4.47. Total time was 43.24. That last km was a lot quicker as I attached myself to a young gazelle who went past me and I used him to pace me through that last k. That was fun. There are so many runners here that I often do this. 😄😅

I don’t often post stories here about my running in fact I don’t think I ever have 🤔 but I just thought I’d give it a go tonight because why not. I’ve had such great news today that my mum is well and is going to be discharged either tomorrow or Wednesday 😊😃 Best news I could ever have hoped for.

Happy running everyone.

Wonderful news that your mum is being discharged tomorrow or Wednesday, that was a great run as well for you today, the photo shows what we call in the east of Scotland, Haar, that's sea fog caused by those humid conditions you mention.

Thank you Al. I can’t wait for mum to get back home.

The mist is quite a spooky sight for sure. thank you for the information about the Haar as it is called in Eastern Scotland 👍

Great news on your mother🙆🏻‍♀️. Fantastic run for you on a very atmospheric sea front, that young gazelle certainly helped you end your run well. Happy running 🤗

How lovely to run by the sea. I used to live in Hove, long before I was a runner. Great run, well done.

I always enjoy every run here, even the bad ones. I’m ever so grateful to be able to run here.

That photo looks as if it could be Venice! Very atmospheric and a bit spooky too 😱 I love it!

Such great news about your mum, that will surely put a spring in your step 😍 Worrying about a loved one can put enormous stress on our bodies that sometimes we’re not even aware of at the time. But it sounds as if you’re well prepared for your 10K already so all you have to do now is keep ticking over and enjoy it all 🙂

Thank you IP 😊 I cropped the original photo that I posted to remove the Road and traffic. I love it too. The mist was only there for a very short time as it moved on and I had to be quick to take a snap of it. I have a lot on my plate at the moment tbh and it you are so right, definitely takes its toll, which is why I am seemingly so fanatical about running 😂, including the need to spoil myself with far too many running shoes 🤔😂

I have to steer clear of injury between now and race day but fat chance of that 😂😬 so no doubt I’ll be posting and whinging about another speed/overuse induced injury at some point in the near future. 😂

Of course the best news of all, and the best therapy for me, is that my mum is finally home and I get to spoil her some more. That’s Italian sons for you 😂

We’ve been to Venice loads of times but my all time favourite was in February years ago. The streets were deserted and there was mist everywhere. That’s why your photo reminded me of that time 🙂

Your mum is clearly a very lucky lady 😍

That’s such an atmospheric picture - especially with the lamp post. Sounds like a great run, with all the various things to see en route. How great your mum’s being discharged! 👍👍👍

Thank you Frenc it was a lucky one in a million shot! 😃 Brighton is such a happy and vibrant place most of the time and there’s so much choice for runners here like the South Downs or the coast. Love it here.

That’s good news about your mum, a good run, it’s a wider seafront along there, can be a bit narrow further west, I love the idea of a 10k race but sadly life is too up and down to commit
