Thunderstorms are forecast overnight and into tomorrow morning and tomorrow’s my running day. So I’m not trying to talk myself out of it or anything 🤣 but should I be running in a thunderstorm? I’m sure it’s not advised 🤷♀️ and I don’t mind the rain……but running out in the open countryside and risking getting struck by lightning!? As I say, I’m not trying to talk myself out of it 🤦♀️😂

Storm brewing - to run or not to run?
NO, don't run or walk for that matter in a thunderstorm, there is always the chance of being struck by lightning, a very long time ago when I was a silly teenager I was caught in a thunderstorm when cycling home from a long bike ride, I thought it was great at the time, getting drenched with all that thunder and lightning, if I was caught now I would be terrified, by the way once I got home there had been no rain at all, such are the nature of thunderstorms, wait until there is no storms then go your running.
No, don't run in a thunderstorm. But equally, don't worry about it in advance, because if you do, you could start finding reasons to talk yourself out of every run. Just get out there when you can. Happy running!
Did you get out? The thunderstorms didn’t happen here (I’m in the South West) and no rain either! I was hoping for both just to clear the air.
Never make yourself a candidate for being the most prominent thing around during a thunderstorm.
Even if you aren't directly hit, the ground currents from a close strike can get you too. Don't shelter under something that's likely to be struck, for example, a tree.
If you can't get indoors, keep low with your feet together.
Thanks everyone. As it turned out there was no storm when I got up but in my head I had already talked myself out of going (and the weather app was still showing a good chance of a storm)!
No of course I wish I’d gone - you never regret doing a run, only ever not doing a run 🤔
