As Simon and Garfunkel sang, in "Bookends", 50 odd years ago ..... I don't see it as getting older, as much as a potential improvement in my age-grading .
The main purpose of this post is to say "thank you" to all members of the HU community who wished me a happy birthday in replies to a number of threads and whatsapps over the weekend. It's nice to know you care ..... Dexy5 took charge of me for a magical mystery tour spanning 5 days and involving a number of my favourite things (not including running!) and favourite people.
Yes, well, where do we go from here? In a running sense of course …… as things stand at the moment, I can still, given decent weather and a flat course, fairly regularly run a 5k in 25 minutes and a 10k in 55. This obviously isn’t going to last, but my season’s bests so far are 23’52” and 53’32”, and I like to think I might improve them a smidge before the inevitable decline sets in. So the spreadsheets and graphs aren't going to be retired for a while yet, especially as a new pair of roadies (the grey ones making the 7) turned up on Sunday, which means, along with my nearly-new roadies and my trails, I've got to cover more than 1500k ( )to wear them all out.
Thanks again everybody, and let's all continue onwards and upwards!

Belated Birthday greetings from me and many congratulations to you UpTheStanley! 🎉🍾🥂🎈 Five days of favourite things and favourite people sounds lovely. Here's to your smidge improvements in those magnificent PBs. 70!!!! Very special! I wonder to what dizzy heights your age grading will rise?
Once again congratulations on your 70th birthday, its only a number, there is a man at my home parkrun who is now 77, of course I have not seen him for 15 months, but he runs regularly 26 minutes 5K parkruns AFTER giving his briefing to new runners at Dunfermline Parkrun, so I am sure you can get sub 30 minute 5K's for a while yet.
Belated Happy Birthday UpTheStanley !🎉🎉🎉 - sounds like you had a lovely time!🙂It’s amazing that you are still running times that most of us can only dream of! Keep on doing what you do and sharing the journey here - we love the inspiration!🙂
Happy birthday UTS! That was some binge!! That is definitely the way to celebrate; favourite haunts and friends and a carer to get you to the right place at the right time legless or not. Well done Dexy5 👏👏👏 Only nine and a half months before I reach the same milestone..ages yet 🙂
I’ve only just seen this UTS, being away doing family things (whoopie!), and of course I’ve passed on my greetings separately but I’ll add my sentiments to everyone else - I can’t believe you’re 70! Happy running in your new shoes!
