After completing the c25k 2 years ago, I've carried on with running on & off. I'm a treadmill runner, so its been difficult over the last year with gyms been closed.
Prior to lockdown, I was working my way towards 10k, making up my own plan as I went along, and managed to reach 9.67km. We only get a 55 minute time slot in the gym, so I'm going to struggle to get to 10k in that time!
After the most recent lockdown, where I attempted 2 outdoor runs without much success, I'm back in the gym and planning on following Juju's magic plan. I've done a few 5k runs so far, to get back into it & make sure I can still do it after time off!
This week, I've completed week 1 of the magic plan, and really enjoyed it!πββοΈ
Hoping to continuing using this plan & reach 10k! Also hoping I can start some outdoor running & that the warmer weather will be more appealing to get outdoors! π€πΌβοΈπββοΈ

Well done! It's been tricky for those who rely on the gyms over the past few months, but it is great to read you have made a strong start to your comeback plan. When you do come to trying an outdoor run again, don't try to compare it to your treadmill runs but treat it as a completely different event. So many things change between running on a treadmill and running outdoors, so just head out for a short run without too many expectations and take it from there. The key thing is to slow your normal runner pace right down, asit is harder to maintain that outside. Also I wouldn't leave it too long... It is really great to be out in the sunshine just now but it is definitely getting warmer - no lovely gym air conditioning outdoors!
Hi Delly-dot, Thank you so much for this messageπ I do usually treat my outdoor runs as the same thing, so I then beat myself up when I don't achieve the same as my treadmill runs! So it's so good to hear this, thank you.
I think I'm going to try the shorter of the 3 weekly runs in the magic plan as a road run, and see how I get on! So I'm going g to go out in the morning to start week 2 of the plan with the 3k run, but I'll remind myself it's not the same as running on the treadmill before I set off πββοΈ
Good luck. Take it steady, go slow and then slower still. Embrace your inner snail π, itβs harder than you think but the key to upping your distance. Enjoy your run π
Hooray! Well done you! I bet you feel fabulous π.
Making your short run of the week the one you do outdoors is a great idea and a good way to acclimatise yourself to all the differences. Who knows, you may want to add another outdoor run into your week further down the line.
