The Call of The Run

Had a nice lay in today, but the call of the run was there when I woke up. Explain that to a non runner, they look at you as if you’ve gone mad!

This might sound weird but does anyone else need to reassure themselves every few days that they can still run ? maybe it’s just me. The fragile ego of the runner. Also I needed my dose of endorphins.

Saw a nice shiny new 10k Race on the NRC App, and as I’ve got the Vitality 10,000 coming up in May (medal, medal, medal 🤗) I thought that’ll do for me 👍.

Headed off and felt good, haven’t done a longer run for a while so was careful not to set off too quickly CB kept reminding me to relax my face 🤪 shoulders and breathing with hands not clenched and that’s good advice as tension uses energy. Chose a different route today which is quite varied with a few hills here and there to mix things up. The run was a steady paced affair, the Saturday traffic was busy, where are they all going I thought to myself

🚗🚙🚗🚙 🤷‍♂️

I reached 8k and felt I’d paced myself just about right, but 9k and it’s getting a little tougher, CB started counting down the remaining metres which was a relief and I must admit at this point I was glad to see.....The Green Green Grass of home....sorry still not fully recovered from that Tom Jones Syndrome 😉 (see previous post).

Checked my phone and was pleasantly surprised with the final time ⏱😁.

Happy Running Everyone 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

P.S Good Luck with Week 6 9weeks2Run to run You’ve got this 💪🏻🏃‍♀️.....Coach x👍

Good run and time for you Couchphoenix, sub 75 minutes 10K is OK, I am also gradually, week by week, running 1K more each Wednesday to get back to 10K in preparation for that Vitality Virtual London 10,000 later in May, I have not ran a 10K since October last year.

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Cheers Al, I’ve not run 10k for a while so needed to get one under my belt in preparation for the Vitality run, it felt ok, final 1k was bit tough, ok though. Good luck with your preparation 👍

Ooooh nice one Couchphoenix! I might try it out tomorrow, well spotted 😊. I know exactly what you mean, wondering if you can still run. I don’t think about running really apart from when I’m actually doing it, so am always amazed I can pull it off when I do, if that makes sense! Enjoy the rest of your day. 😀

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Frenc

Cheers Frenc. Makes perfect sense, you continually amaze yourself at what your body can actually achieve even over a year on.

Quite a good NRC run that one, good coaching too, I enjoyed it 👍

Poorly at mo so no exercise for me. But as soon as I’m better I will be back to it! I’m going to try Coach B when I run again as he sounds amusing from what you have said about him 😀 x

Sorry to hear you haven’t been well Sarah, hope you feel better soon. I think you’ll enjoy the NRC Runs, there’s a really good choice and CB is so encouraging, he really does help make the run more enjoyable x

Thanks CP. I don’t why but I always imagined CB to be a rambling mature gentleman 😂.So I got a pleasant surprise when I googled him yesterday 🤣🤣.

I think it would be good to listen to something different 👍🏻.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a Jamesons for me my running chum 🥃 ☺️ x

Well done CP/coach!!! 😀 sounds a good comfortable run, i know what you mean about 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ still, if you've not been out for a while! 🤣 and only other runners would understand! 🤷‍♂️Hope everythings ok with your mum's house, etc.

Anyway, what's all that having a lay in, letting everyone down there??? 🤣

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Peter44

Sorry mate, I was a bit of a lazy lump this morning.....I’ll be stripped of my Coach status at this rate! 😮

Been waiting for letters of administration re mums house so been at a standstill, hopefully will sort it out soon 👍

Hope you’re doing ok

Nice! I must try some more audio runs on NRC. I’ve been neglecting these in favour of zombies and also our own HU Spring 10k audio run on RunGo, which I’ve used now 3 times for my longer runs!

Great stuff!

👏💪

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to CBDB

Thank You 😊 I know you love those zombie runs, you must have completed lots of those by now.

Might have to look into the HU 10k, it keeps things fresh doing something different. 👍

Well done, CP. I hear you about the fragile ego. If I haven’t run for a more than day or two, I feel panicked about getting out there, about my body forgetting how to do this.

Nice distance and pace. You’re inspiring me to get back to the NRC. I’ve been too much into my podcasts at the moment.

Happy Sunday!

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to sofaspud

Thanks sofaspud, it’s reassuring to know it’s not just me that feels like that, you’ve described it perfectly 👍

NRC have a nice selection to choose from, does the job for me.

Happy Sunday to you too 😁

Sounds like a good run. I saw this too and downloaded it for my hopeful 10k in a couple of weeks 🤞 would you recommend it?

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Frizzbomb67

It was nice and steady, felt ok, even the hills. Definitely I’d recommend it, good coaching and encouraging throughout Frizzbomb67.

Good luck with your 10k, I’m sure you’ll do great, look forward to reading all about it 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Well done, CP. Great practice 10K for you! I like that ‘the call of the run’ 😂

Yes, I can relate to needing reassurance that I can still run, especially lately, when I’ve missed a few runs.

No problems for you, though! Good pace there, too! 👏👏👏🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️👍

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Jools2020

Thanks Jools I’m finding quite a few people identify with that feeling too, which is reassuring. It was a nice run actually, never easy but felt ok,

I relaxed and just went with it, even the hills felt ok 👍

I was quite surprised at the pace, isn’t it great when that happens 😁

Couchphoenix profile image

I think you have inspired me as well to maybe earn a little medal 😊

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Dups

Why don’t you do the Virtual Vitality 10,000, you’ve recently reached 10k, it’s a cracking medal, I did it last year and I’ve signed up to do it this year too. 🏅

Race at Your Pace have lovely medals too, only £10 or £13 if you want your miles engraved on it. There’s no subscription or anything you just do one as and when you like, set yourself a monthly mileage target which you can increase or reduce.

Can’t beat a bit of running bling 👍
