A 5k Hare & 4K Tortoise Run ๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿข Following A Pact With 9weeks2Run

Iโ€™ve felt sluggish lately, with energy levels feeling a bit depleted. Iโ€™d been contemplating going out for an early morning run, which is what I always used to do, but had got out of the habit. I just needed that extra push, which came last night when I responded to a post from my lovely virtual running friend 9weeks2Run who was also contemplating an early morning run ๐Ÿค” so I decided weโ€™d make a pact and Iโ€™d go out for one if she would, to which she duly agreed ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿค ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I woke up at 5am, just before the alarm, as I was getting ready, message received from 9weeks2Run sheโ€™d just completed her first pre-work run and felt great ! Wow that was an early run ! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

So kit on and headed out at 6am....todayโ€™s goal, run a sub 30 5k, Iโ€™ve only managed this twice and that was a long time ago, I havenโ€™t tried a speed run for ages. Weather was perfect, set off at a good pace, breathing good and I could instantly feel I have so much more energy this time of day, maintained this pace until I eventually reached the park, where I know 5k ends, increased my pace and went for it.....pounding along until CB finally announced the run had come to an end.......time 30:35 ๐Ÿ˜ฌ.

Itโ€™s at this point you think to yourself at which point you should have increased your pace......still, Iโ€™m pleased with that time, not too shabby for a 55 year old former couch spud and reassures me I can pick up the pace when needed ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป.

I chose the NRC 4K Run to get me home, which I took nice and slowly. Home showered and off to work.

Verdict.....Iโ€™m definitely a morning runner !

Happy Running Everyone!

Almost sub 30 minute 5k for you Couchphoenix, well done on what was a 9K run, perhaps your next run will be sub 30 minutes.

CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Cheers Al, keeps things interesting to set myself little challenges and push myself from time to time, Iโ€™ll get there, that was my first attempt in a long time ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Great run/s ! I would be happy also with 30:35 for the 5k ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

Thanks Ian, I was pleased with that time, sub 30 would have been nice, but thatโ€™s close enough and thereโ€™s always another day. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Well done on that nearly sub 30 5kAnd then another 4k run for dessert

I really must drag myself up one morning

CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Birdlady64

Thanks BL64, itโ€™s strange as youโ€™d think youโ€™d feel tired, but once youโ€™re out there with your kit on you feel fine, the air is lovely and fresh. I run so much better that time of the day.

Try it sometime, you may be surprised ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

I did it all last summer after I graduated C25K. It was wonderful. I stopped during the darker mornings but need to get back in that mindset

CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Birdlady64

The mornings are much lighter now, and itโ€™s not so cold, this morning was perfect, itโ€™s definitely encouraged me to do more.

Well done on getting out so early, both of you โ˜บ 9weeks2Run i really should try one of these ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ mind you, starting work at 6am, doesnt help! ๐Ÿ˜ด๐Ÿคฃ

OMG that is an incredibly early start I thought 7.30am was early!!

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Peter44

Wow ! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ thatโ€™s early Peter, youโ€™d be pushing it to go out for a run, shower and get to work by 6am. Iโ€™m lucky, Iโ€™m on flexi time so I can start as early as 6:30 or as late as 10...,Iโ€™m very lucky in that respect.

Hope youโ€™re doing ok ๐Ÿ‘

Yes, might be a push, before work.Alot of sorting out to be done, at the house, in between running, when i can, slowly building up to it again, doing the HU 10k on sunday, after a lay in! ๐Ÿคฃ

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Peter44

Iโ€™ve still got to sort out mums house in Wales, we did all we could whilst waiting for letters of administration etc, still a lot to sort out, so I do sympathise. Mums house was my family home and itโ€™s strange and painful going there as I still expect her to be there.

The very best of luck on your 10k Peter, Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ll smash it....after your lie in ๐Ÿคฃ

Peter44 profile image
Peter44Graduate10 in reply to Couchphoenix

I know how you feel about your family house, me and kids moved into mum's house 3 years ago, feels so strange here without her, even though i know she's now in a better place, will be sad when we do sell, end of an era, like you, the family home for 55 years. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

I know exactly how you feel...even now 23 years on, I feel sad that I canโ€™t go โ€œhomeโ€ anymore.

Very impressive, 9k first thing in the morning and a quick run as well. I always take my dog out for a walk around 6ish, and usually yawn all the way around our route. I do love being out first thing when most of the world seems to still be asleep but really can't imagine doing a run. I may try it one day.

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Tofino

Try it, you may surprise yourself, Iโ€™m guessing if youโ€™re anything like me you roll out of bed bleary eyed and go straight out with the dog, but when you go out for a run you take a little time to prepare, which makes all the difference. The air that time of day is so much better too, especially for me as I live on a main road ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Thanks Indielass00 it felt lovely being out there in the fresh morning air and not having to wait at junctions and dodge the dog walkers. Felt like my old self this morning....Hope youโ€™re doing ok x

Glad you are feeling more like yourself again. Iโ€™m ok thanks. Still getting the odd headache but not a bad as they were. Walking every day and been doing Yoga and exercises Osteopath gave me.

Just yearning to run but wonโ€™t until Iโ€™m totally pain free! Hip is loads better though, which is a good sign โ˜บ๏ธ.

I hope you continue to feel on top form my running chum x

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Indielass00

You sound like youโ€™re getting there gradually and the osteopath has helped you a lot. My workmate CI578 has had back and neck problems for ages and Iโ€™ve finally persuaded her to see one. Her first appointment is this evening. ๐Ÿคž

Be patient youโ€™ll be out there running again soon my running chum x

Well done Coach that is brilliant, aww thank you lovely running friend. That is a great time and fantastic achievement to get back out doing an early morning run.

I must say it was great to have made the pact, I knew there was no way I would not do this so when my alarm went off I jumped up and felt really motivated to get out and do my first pre work run. You were so right regarding the benefits of early morning run. I have felt great today at work, energy levels have felt amazing one of my work friends said I was glowing not sure if that is my new expensive Vegan toner or the run, lol my money is on the run!

Thank you for your support was great to think you were going to be running too!

Take care x

CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to 9weeks2Run

Ahhhh, we motivated each other today, I needed that extra push, so knowing you were out there running too and weโ€™d made our little pact meant I was definitely going out there.

So glad I did too, Iโ€™d forgotten what a better runner I am at that time of day, I was beginning to wonder when Iโ€™d start regaining my energy, this morning I felt so much stronger ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

Lovely to hear you had such a good shift today, and someone saying you looked glowing too must have been the icing on the cake ๐Ÿ˜

Thank you for your support too ๐Ÿค—

Take care x
