I don't notice other runners much when I'm running. I mean, I can tell they're there and whether they're wearing a jacket or a t-shirt or a vest, but I run without my glasses so any more detail than that in terms of kit is lost to me. And although I drive with my glasses on (you'll be glad to hear), I don't let myself get distracted from the road.
But yesterday there was a long queue (all of us behind a tractor and the tractor behind a bicycle) that meant I was driving at the same pace as a runner just ahead on the pavement. He was wearing a thing around his upper arm which seemed to be holding his phone, so that the phone screen was fully exposed on the back of his arm. I didn't think "Oooh, cool phone holder thingamajig" though. I thought, "Solar panel". And carried on singing to the radio.
Then I thought, "He's not getting much sun on that solar panel, it's not going to help him go fast in this weather". The radio was playing A-ha. They're good. More singing.
The song ended. Then I thought, "Hang on, people don't have solar panels. It's probably just his phone."
