Hey gang!

It's Mondaaaaay!!!!! How have you been getting on with your March Quests this past week? Tell us all about it 😊😊😊

I was quite good this morning and got out for my long run in a fairly timely manner! It got to the point where I had to decide to post this in the afternoon so I could leave for my run as soon after 9 am as possible. I got onto some nice off-road terrain, including lots of stones, and some rather deep mud - so my Quest is going pretty well so far!!

I can spend a good deal of time procrastinating though - who's with me, and what do you get up to when you're "getting ready for your run"? πŸ˜‚

Have a great week!!

What is the Quest?

The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.

Some popular goals are:

β˜… To run three times a week

β˜… To slowly increase distance

β˜… To train for a specific race distance

β˜… To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine

This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is COMMENT BELOW with something like:

I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in! I want to ..............

Every week I will put up a new post and we can all chat about how we are doing.

NEED SOME INSPIRATION?

Go you! Great stuff !

I am feeling so much more hopeful!

Finished Week 4 of Couch yesterday.. and feeling ready for longer runs!

Week 5 starts Tuesday!

Yes...I AM....I feel more like me and with no intention to push. I feel capable of more! But will just keep on steady and slow!

Strength and stamina work is ongoing.. focus on core strength this week.

Small runner in training, is also helping with a real Monday workout each week and a 3 or 4 mile ,Thursday walk!!

Happy safe running fellow questers! Xx

My third week has not kept on track. As hinted at (revealed) in my late-posted W2 report, I was hit by shin splints. These were not caused by running, by cane from a long walk to my partner’s vaccination centre. Nice walk, which we added to (before his jab) to check out some possible running routes for future weeks/months. Look good. Kept me away from things for most of the week, but recovered.

Tested my walking legs on a different and shorter walk to my vaccination centre. And yesterday on a 4k gentle run - with some *zigzagging* - so feel I’m now back onto my quest. Will I make 10k this month as predicted? We’ll see how it goes as I extend in the coming week. Was at 9k just before the disruption started, so it’s feasible. Will take it gently though.

Keeping up my qigong course and homework, and attended a couple of other online classes.

Keeping up daily meditation. Now, some days, combining this with the qigong standing meditation.

And enjoying COGH too!

Forgot to answer your question: I’m very capable of procrastination, and definitely recognise the pattern for other life aspects (obv, not involving the running clothes!). However, I don’t seem to do it with running (at least, not yet). I get up, get dressed, do warmup routine indoors, warmup walk and tip into the run. It helps to (sometimes) have a running partner. It’s also helped to be highly motivated (desperate?! anxious?!) to get to the park before too many others arrive. And, on workdays, before meetings start. That pincer movement has squeezed out scope for dithering.

Excellent work! I get a lot of housework done, so it is definitely possible to see the positives πŸ˜‚

Hi roseabi and fellow questers,

No running procrastination for me as I always want to run! I just get that on housework and school admin 🀣

I’ve had a great running week. First ten miles yesterday and ParkRun PB 31.57 πŸ’ͺ🏻

But they weren’t my goals πŸ™ˆ

Here we go with the actual goals.

47.7 miles done so well on track for my 100k target. Think that’s about 77k. Sorry I’ve got my Garmin set to miles as I was working towards the 10mile goal.

MAF - All weekday runs at 134. Oops. Yesterday’s 10mile run was way above that by the end. Think I manage to keep my average under 150 just at 149. I’m really keen to keep working on this so I don’t overdo it especially if I’m running a faster 5k at ParkRun.

Zero drop - I will do a short run again in the new Altra’s this week. So far so good πŸ‘πŸ»

Happy running everyone β€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I put on running underpinnings on any potential run day (ie any day I didn't run the day before) Actually going for a run involves stripping off the outer, stealth layer when I get to my location. I cannot say that this actually reduces faffage overall, alas. I had a long phase of big firm control knickers (because wobbling tum was at least as uncomfortable as unfettered breasts would be) and it was often a motivation to run to not have to put those on the next day! I think I may need to reinstitute those.

Keeping up with the walk or run every day, come rain or swans on the path. Enjoying the lighter evenings for walks - that was a magical part of the middle of last year.

roseabiβ€’ in reply toGoogleMe

I have been mostly remembering to get straight into my running things too recently, it certainly helps! Sorry to hear about the pants situation, and the swans - eek!!! xxx

I've done some planks and stretches and lots of calf raises (some eccentric). Not as much as I should but an improvement. Plus I am running still. But got a bit of calf ache so taking it easy on my runs with 2 days in between for now. Finally, I have had one shortbread less per day this week... honest. I must eat more fruit.

Oops I forgot to reply last week, πŸ™„ I'm putting that down to having a bit of an argument with a fridge door on Monday leaving me bruised and bleeding πŸ€•and very fed up. But by Wednesday I was out for a run and feeling like myself again 😊I actually am loving the lighter mornings I like getting out before everyone else, so it's only if I have to go later in the day that I sometimes dither about getting out.

My quest is going well I have got out twice each week and am now up to 70 minutes for the long run but it felt really hard work. I'm still doing squats while teeth cleaning and kettle boiling and sometimes when on the phone πŸ˜†, I've swapped the push ups (just not getting anywhere with them) for planks and side planks. So

That must have been awful - glad you're feeling more like yourself now!!

Well done for getting out there, and for all the strength work, brilliant!!!!! xx

Somewhat mixed report this week. Continual improvement target was 5k in 26'30" ....

Was eventually shamed into running by Dexy5 late on windy Thursday. Dropped off at one end of the prom, 5k with the gale behind me, and picked up at the other end. 25'43", so on the face of it a good run and a week ahead of target, but with a sodding great wind-assisted asterisk against the time. And run at an ever-declining pace until the last k - 5'00", 5'07", 5'09", 5'14", 5'11".

Feeling guilty about the cheat, I went for another 5k yesterday on our usual out and back route in much gentler conditions. A slower start, but the same pattern - 5'09", 5'10", 5'20", 5'27", 5'14" for a 26'20", so last week's target achieved, but boy it was hard at the end. So hard that my intention of dropping down a gear and doing an extra couple of k on completion was shelved in favour of collapsing onto a handy bench for a couple of minutes ......

I am not at all confident that I will achieve this week's 26'00" target without another handy gale, but we'll have to see. And something's got to be done about those positive splits!

Altogether, it's proving a long road back from that jab. But I still can't wait for the next one.

Onwards and upwards!!

Oops, I've been advised that I did quest on here:

* I haven't restarted yoga - gardening has taken over

* I haven't managed 3 runs a week due to weather and vaccination

But I did get to run 12km in week 2

I definitely resemble the timeline image at the head of this.

Looking back on the points I made at the start of the month:

* Run every other day (where possible), even if it's just a short easy jog.

Actually, no. I've been sensible. I took an extra rest day on Saturday and benefited from it. The runs during the week had felt much harder than usual and I didn't have as much energy as I usually had.

* Walk on rest days.

Yes, done that one.

* Avoid injury.

Doing OK so far this month. Some muscles are feeling tight, but that's expected and fine.

* Run a total of 100km in the month again. I did about 110km in February.

Currently at 66km with 15 days left according to Strava. It's looking possible.

* Increase distance gradually. I'm currently at 13.2km (8.2 mile).

Definitely happening. I had an easier week after that 13km, but pushed forward to 15km at the weekend just gone.

* Achieve a 10 mile run near the end of the month.

This is not far off. If not this weekend, then the final weekend of this month.

* Don't overdo it. Know my limits. All targets are secondary.

Check! I'm trying to be careful at balancing things between trying to achieve greater and keeping safe.

I'm going to try something slightly different this week and run three days in a row for the first time. Shorter easy runs, but my first ever runs on consecutive days.

My first C25K run was nearly a year ago: Tues 24 March, the day after the first lockdown was announced. I didn't get beyond W1R3 before giving up due to feeling ill.

PS. I have a little problem. My partner has found my stash of jelly babies. She likes jelly babies. I'm going to have to buy some more.

Oops HiπŸ–...well...um...not exactly doing much to shout about presently😏I had my vaccine which threw me off a bit, I have kept up with my daily yoga practise.

No S and C though and not feeling very runny at the moment... still walking though for exercise and fresh air.

I do still intend to get that 5k done later in the month...and will run when I feel the need to...

All is well, I've just got a full mind at the moment. xxx

Week 3 and things are still going well despite work being absolutely manic!!!I’m just 7.4k from finishing Hadrian’s Wall so I’ll be done by the end of the week 😊. A bit of bling will soon be heading my way πŸ…

Loving the COGH ultra relay and all the info being shared along the way.

My post covid recovery is going well and I’m now back up to running 5k, a bit slower than before but I’m sure the speed will return as my endurance improves.

Looking forward to finally getting my vaccine now it’s group 9’s turn πŸ’‰

All in all it’s thumbs up all round πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

Aaah...procrastination...my middle name 😬

I faff around before I do *anything*....this now, for example, posting this before some bedtime yoga...πŸ™„

Anyway...

Another 2 runs...a quickie 30 minute Incline run, after work...and on Sunday, a 2nd ever 10k...on the flat! YAY! #ExerciseFromHome relaxed to #StayLocal 😊

I walked all non run days, apart from Friday when I was a total πŸ›‹πŸ₯” after work. I missed yoga on 2 days too.

Dialling it back this week...planning runs no further than 5km as signed up for the HU10k 😊
