New Shoes !!
I would wait until non essential shops are open , then get a gait analysis from a running shop .You can then get them online with a good saving 😁
I would agree that it is worth having gait analysis if you can wait.
I have always used Adidas Ultraboost because I cannot wear a narrow shoe but I had to return the last pair because they were too narrow. I think they were a special edition because they were different material to the other 3 pairs I have had which have been so comfortable.
I bought Kiprun Long2 from decathlon and they are very comfortable and only £59. So I bought a second pair
Another thing to look for - don't buy this year's colours, with the Ultraboost I have usually saved upto £40 by buying last years model!
If you can survive another 5 weeks, I’d book up a gait analysis with your local running shop. They will do a range of prices and if you tell them how much your top price is, they can recommend. The cost of the gait analysis is usually deducted off the price of the shoes. If the shoes turn out to be not right, they can rectify.
Online is fine if you are replacing like for like, but difficult to return if you’ve run in them and don’t like.
There is a pinned post on the c25k forum with useful advice.
If you are going down the route of getting a gait analysis but then buying the shoes online, then if it’s a shop that does the analysis for free it’s good manners to buy at least some socks from the shop
Once you know what shoes you need, it’s often possible to google to find out what discontinued shoe they are the successor to. Last season’s shoe is often still available and discounted somewhere.
I feel it's wrong to have a gait analysis in a shop you have no intention of buying shoes from. It will normally take at least an hour, that's time the assistant could be serving a genuine customer. There are few shops these days that offer this service, so let's not put any more out of business. If they have offered you good advice, buy your shoes from them - you can always get a second pair online afterwards.
When I started C25k I very much doubted I could keep it up. However, I knew for sure a decent pair of shoes are essential to help prevent injuries.
But - running shoes ARE expensive.
So, I went to a "proper" Running store and explained my dilemma.
Turns out a lot of people were just like me
So - they fitted me out with a pair of shoes that were good for Running AND walking. That way, if I did quit running, I would still have the use of them
Well, about eight months later I was hooked on running and went back and bought "dedicated" running shoes - they weighed a lot less than the "dual purpose" ones but were equally comfortable etc.
The run/walk pair lasted well over a year as my "daily wear" shoes so basically I definitely got my money's worth on all counts
Hooe this helps with your decision, but will add - no way would I trust my feet to some online pair of shoes. Too many knock offs, inferior standards, tarted up rejects etc. The accountability and expertise of a brick and mortar store if there is a problem is definitely worthva few bucks more
Thank you for all the replies and words of wisdom. I am going to wait for shops to open and have a gait done.
