A convoluted problem

I have a Garmin Forerunner 245, which I use with a Running Dynamics Pod, that gives me all sorts of lovely stats - stride length, cadence, vertical oscillation etc..all well and good, except I feel the wrist based heart rate monitor is way off. I would like to buy a chest strap to have a more accurate HR, BUT, will it override my RD pod? I.E. How manym peripherals can I have going at one time?

Why do you think the wrist HR is inaccurate? The 245 should be pretty good.

Because it typically goes from no reading at all then shoots up to Z5, then back down to Z1, even when I'm running at the same pace, ... sometimes I can't stay in a low zone, other times I can't get up into Z3 or 4 no matter how fast I run...it's all over the place - either that or my heart is busted..

Is the wrist strap tight enough or too tight? Do you wear the watch body on the inside or the outside of the wrist?

Outside. All the pictures I've ever seen show it worn that way, do you think I should try it on the inside?

It may well have been too tight yesterday, it left quite a mark on my skin. I thought it was meant to be tight though?

I have it on the outside and it seems reliable for me. It might work in a different position for you.

Sounds a bit unusual. If it's fitted snugly above the wrist bones it should work fine. If it doesn't I'd be inclined to contact Garmin customer services. They're very helpful. As to your original query, you can use more than one sensor if connecting via Ant+ (which Garmin does). I use the HRM run chest strap which does everything the Run Pod does. If you want to keep using the Run Pod you can get a chest strap that does HR only which will be cheaper.

Thank you, I'm looking into contacting them. I'll let you know what they say. And see if I can find a strap like that.

Thank you all who replied, SlowLoris nowster - I've been on to Garmin, they talked me through a reset, if that doesn't work, they'll sort me out a replacement! I'll keep you posted xx
