December Challenge of 50 Miles Complete But It’s been a Sad and Painful few Days

I wasn’t sure whether I should put this post on here or not, but here goes.

I completed my Race at Your Pace 50 mile December challenge today, but it’s been a tough conclusion to it and I was glad to finally complete that last 4k.

My mum sadly passed away Christmas Eve and grief certainly knocks the wind out of your sails and saps your energy. Tinytears60 aka Jane said do it for your mum and I thought that’s a lovely way to think about it.

I’m so glad I found running and this forum. I did a 10k run on Boxing Day, which took my mind off things, helped me focus on something different for a short time and actually helped lift my spirits a little.

Lets hope 2021 brings us a much better and happier year for us all

Oh CP, I’m so sorry to hear about your Mum. 🙁 And on Christmas Eve too.

It’s nice to hear that you were able to channel your grief with a 10k on Boxing Day. Time just for you and a chance to remember quietly. ❤️

I lost my Mum in October 2019 and running helped me no end. Be kind to yourself for the next few weeks, or as long as it takes. Let your runs just happen, and don’t place expectations upon yourself. Run for you and your lovely Mum.

Take lots of care. 🥰

I'll be glad to see the end of this year too. It's been awful in so many ways, especially the last couple of months. The only good thing to have come out of it has been this new activity and the new friends we have found here.

Hugs from a distance.

Oh I’m so sorry about your mum. My mum passed away 27 years ago...on Xmas day. I’ve never felt the same about Xmas since. It will feel very raw at the moment, so well done on getting out there and running.

I can promise you that your grief will ease over time and you will laugh again as you think of the good times and fond memories you have of your time together.

I’m here if you want to DM me ❤️❤️❤️

I am so sorry to hear that. You are in our thoughts. X

Very sorry for your loss, but well done for completing the run for your mum. I lost my mum about 14 months ago so I know how you are feeling. During that immediate time I made myself go out running and I found it helped a lot as it just gave me some time to myself to think and to quietly remember. Look after yourself at this time and as you say hopefully 2021 will be much better for us all.

Hi Mister So proud of you for getting out there to tick off the last couple of km’s at such a heartbreaking time 💔... I’m hoping it gave you some time and space to lose yourself in your private thoughts and for you to recall some special memories of your Mum

Like I said - that medal will be so very precious to you and will carry huge sentimental value.

Take time for yourself, be kind to yourself and remember you have all your running family on the forum to lean on - we all care!

Sending you huge hugs at such a sad time 🤗 Losing a parent is tough and there is no handbook on how to deal with it... it’s hard at any time but somehow Christmas makes it harder- Life is very cruel!

Do it your way, in your time - Here when you need us Mister so reach out any time... but most importantly take time for yourself 💙

Thinking of you 🙏🏻

Oh no Couchphoenix, that’s such sad news. So sorry for your loss. We lost my dad just before Christmas 2 years ago and it’s been a tough time.

I’ve found running and support from this community such a help in getting through it.

I’m sure your mum would understand you going for a run to help your mental health. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and support from friends and family (and of course on here) if you need it.

Yes, we must all hope for a better year in 2021. Best wishes to you and your family in these difficult times. My thoughts are with you.

I'm just catching up on VRB'S posts after a month spent hibernating, struggling with depression CP and wanted to send my best wishes to you although very belatedly. Hope you're doing ok and looking after yourself. Very sad for you- I lost my father in August- the running has really helped - time to process and get those endorphins doing their magic. A good cry helps on occasion too. Sending virtual hugs 🤗 take care of yourself

Thank You Littleoyellow, I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling with depression and to hear of your sad loss. I’m ok, although grief comes over you in waves. It was mums funeral last week and it was a huge relief that it went off ok, although a funeral with the Covid restrictions is a strange limited affair. Mums neighbours and friends, some quite elderly gathered in the street when the funeral cortège arrived, to pay their respects, which was nice and I managed to stand up in the crematorium chapel and read the eulogy I’d prepared.

The running has helped me a lot and given me something else to focus on. And as you rightly say a good cry does help from time to time. You take care too 🤗

Littleoyellow profile image
LittleoyellowGraduate10 in reply to Couchphoenix

Thank you for your kindness CP 😁🤗 I'm finally on the upswing in terms of mental health atm. My father's funeral was restricted to 16 people- enough for close family only, but went as well as could be expected for the circumstances. You did your mum proud with the eulogy, and you should be really proud of yourself for paying tribute to her in such a way. I'm sure she was beaming and sending you a big pat on the back and a huge hug. Support always here for you 🤗
