Firstly let me start by being totally transparent...I’m jealous of you all🏃🏻♂️ 🏃 🏃🏽♀️ 🏃..in the nicest possible way !!.... 😂
I started a new job 7 weeks ago and I’m very closely involved in responding to the pandemic, as well as leading on ‘business as usual’. Well...it’s my dream job in lots of ways, but it been exhausting 😬.
Getting in my runs started off ok as I went out early in the morning ⛅️ , so not being able to get up from behind a desk for 9 hours or more without a break was actually ok 👍🏽 . As it got darker, I substituted with a short HIIT session and promises to start earlier and earlier so I could finish and get out for a run before it gets dark. Well...that plan failed! 😣 I did get two very short runs in this week.
I have got about 2 weeks of steps to add to LEJOG so I have no idea where I am now. Apt I think! 💭 🤔.... I’m too tired to think of a solution. 😂
So...for now, I’m going to have to go with the flow. That doesn’t mean no running by the way. Sgt Major Garmin is having none of that 💂♀️..🤨! It just means creating some boundaries so that I can get some me time back! 🤓

Starting a new job is bound to create havoc to your routine Fabulous, and more so if it’s related to the pandemic. I think a lot of people also find it difficult at this time of year. So just do what you can , when you can and maybe get a run in at the weekend if you can.
Thanks so much Dexy5! Yes, it’s definitely the reduced opportunity with darkness that makes it much harder. If nothing else, I think I will conquer winter running this year 🙌🏽, because I’m happy to go out whatever the weather! I will carry on just doing what I can! 🦾❤️
Good to hear your news. With a new demanding job plus the dark and cold, I think you're doing marvellously to fit in any kind of fitness! I can only manage one run a week until the term finishes but that's better than nothing. We have to snatch any opportunities we can. Hope you'll get a decent amount of time off at Christmas to recharge your batteries. 🤗

Thanks so much Birdlady64! 🤗 I have continued to go out, but it’s getting fewer and shorter. I guess some of the frustration is there because I want to and in the winter...😮 and something else is happening instead. The balance...I guess is in not being too rigid about it 💡😁❤️

I’m just acutely aware that I need to find some gaps and headspace to refuel. It’s quite hard not to keep thinking and planning, even when you’re supposed to be ‘off-line’. It’s like being on alert 24/7. I’m working on it Cheeky, so that I can be of the best help. I think I’ll take that thought on my runs this week! 🦾 Thank you all for the space to share!! Ah thanks Instructor57!! 🤗 I am definitely trying to adjust! I guess the trying and seeing it as not working has got the better of me, rather than seeing it as testing the water about what will work. Great idea! 🤓
Good news on your new job, but it can be challenging to get runs in, especially when it's always dark outside working hours!Lunchtime can work for a short run though, as long as you actually get a lunch break!
🤗🤗 Thanks so much Roxdog!! I did have a very cunning plan to go out at lunchtime 🤓, but there hasn’t been any lunch time! 😂!! I’m going to make some adjustments though, because burnout really doesn’t work in anyone’s favour!! 😁❤️
I agree!! I even tried blocking out lunch time in my diary! Well, let’s just say that trial continues!! 😂😂
However... 💭..🤔 it may be only us that’s adjusting and if you keep go against your boundaries...well when you think about it, its not a temporary adjustment and it will continue.
Cunning plan?...’No’ to no lunch 🍱 ! It’s run/eat and/or recharge time during daylight hours.

Congrats on new job. Adjusting routines can be hard but easier when you have the will and the fitness to just go when you can without being too hard on yourself. Maybe even tell Sgt Major Garmin to do one for a week and just enjoy something else each morning instead that easier to fit it (15 min yoga)? Just an idea - hope you find time for you whatever you do.
Thanks so much Slothgoesrunning! 🤗 Sgt Garmin has been in a sulk for a couple of weeks, but I have done a bit. I did fit in a couple of mornings of 5 minutes HITT, but even that used to be a bit of a daily wake up routine, never mind the runs. 😳... 😂
I guess tiredness just continued to creep into the next day. Ohhh...but I’ll figure it out somehow! 😁❤️
Great to see you posting Fabulous450 just as you say go with the flow the shorter days are difficult to manage with family life and work. Add your 🪜steps in and find out where you are and go from there, 🧭a few checkpoints along the way will lead to longer lighter days 🌞to come.

Happy to hear from you Fab. It’s a mental struggle to accept your limitations I suppose. Perhaps it’s easier to accept we’ll never run 5k in 30 min than accept we can’t do all the things we want/need to do. The trick must be to embrace that limit which it seems you have. Very sensibly!! WYC WYC should be everyone’s mantra in winter - what you can, when you can! Happy running to you.

Faberoooooonie!! Most importantly, look after you. The rest can then follow. Slow progress is still progress. This year I got a chest light and go after work and it really helps me separate work from my relax time. I personally don't like runs before work. Remember, whatever you're doing is enough 😊
Thanks so much GTFC!! 🤗 I bought a headlight a couple of years ago, thinking this is the answer!...it wasn’t my cup of tea. 😂 Though I’ve noticed how much brighter the roads are at night with the new smart street lighting.

Hey BTP!! 🤗 Thanks so much for checking in! A very short break from 23rd, which was filled with preparing for my youngest 18th on the 24th! 😂 I was back to work yesterday, but only one more day and then I get to rest without any plans. 😉
I went back out for a short this morning! Still need to work on fitting it all in 😳, but I’m trying to get this mind and body into the right mode for 2021! 💪🏽😁❤️
