Black Friday Garmins

Just checked Amazon UK and there appear to be some chunky discounts on Garmins, including 45 and 245, for those who might be interested.

Still not sure if I want one as I might get obsessed by analysis rather than getting out for the simple fun.

I was convinced I wanted a Vivoactive 4s but am now wibbling between a Venu - if Black Friday ever actually happens in France - and nothing.

I'm torn between "A running watch would be be more practical than the phone! It does clever techy things and tells you loads of stuff! It's cute*! You deserve it, you had a big birthday last month!" and "For heaven's sake, you've managed fine so far, stop being competitive-obsessive, you don't need it."

* Obviously the cutesy colours destined for girly-wirlies like moi are more expensive than the macho dark colours 😡

Well I love my Vivoactive 3 - mainly cos I can read the screen easily while I’m running without risk to life and limb!! I managed fine with my Fitbit for several

months when I first started but came to the point when stopping to check my speed was somewhat counter-productive!!

Only issue I have is with its battery-life. As I’m doing LEJOG I need to record dog walks as well as runs so have to charge it every couple of days - and it often catches me out! So I may well take a look at something else!

Happy running...

You don’t need to get obsessed HeavyFoot, but there are many advantages. I wouldn’t be without my Garmin. The GPS is more accurate than those on a mobile phone. You can play your music on your phone but skip tracks or pause music by the press of a button on the watch (some Bluetooth headphones do this too). If you are wanting to run an exact distance, it is easier to see it on a GPS watch. I sometimes do runs at a certain HR pace so although not as accurate as a chest band, it does help maintain a level .

Oh, but I would get obsessed, D5. I’ve seen those Garmin analysis screens! A friend described me as a “gadget freak” so I have deliberately cut down on electronic things. Now down to an iPad, iPhone and a simple stopwatch on my wrist. Oh yes, and the Aftershox. And go-faster socks 🧦.

I frequently run with my Garmin showing just the time (regular watch face) - it's quite a nice little challenge to resist checking the stats until I get home!

Oh dear! My resolve is melting. France is having its Black Friday this coming Friday. I’ll see what they might have on the Amazon website.
