I haven’t ran since Friday and had an exhausting, long day on call Sunday and woke up congested with an ear ache yesterday. I drank lots of Cold 911 tea and Headache halo tea from David’s Tea yesterday and slept a bit better and woke without an earache or as congested today. Although maybe I should have told my husband my boss moved my day off up a day earlier so he wouldn’t have woke me up in a panic thinking I had slept in. Oops. I guess he doesn’t look at the calendar on the fridge.
I set out with a 30-40 minute run in mind, planning to run some random Fartleks if the pathway wasn’t too icy in spots. I’m bad for not warming up or cooling down properly so I focussed on this today and found as I made my way to one of the parks and wound in and out of the park, sections had nice snow packed areas. There was still ice under it but I was able to pick up the pace for short bursts. The legs were heavy and I had to be careful on the ice but I thought it felt good regardless. As I made my way back home and around the second park, I tried really hard to keep the pace slow and get my heart rate back into zone 2. Of course I had to stop to take a couple pictures of the hoarfrost again. I do love the look of frosty trees with sun shining on it.
I was disappointed to get my first “unproductive” notification from Garmin after my run today. Although I haven’t been able to run consistently the last 2 weeks so I shouldn’t be that surprised. I’m hoping for a longer run on Friday and a shorter tempo type run on Sunday (if possible with the snow and ice) so maybe that will get me back on track.
Time to get cleaned up and run some errands. I got a notification that the tea I ordered online from David’s has arrived so I must go pick it up and get some chocolate chip cookies in the oven as a surprise for my teenager when he returns from school today.
Happy running everyone!

That was a reasonable run for you today SaskAlliecat, I am noting the temperature in Saskatoon is around - 6C/21F but feels colder with the wind, icy patches under snow is dangerous so be careful when you are out running.I hope you enjoyed the tea and chocolate chip cookies after your run, you throughly deserved them, by the way the temperature today where I live in Central Scotland was +11C but with a little rain as well.
11 degrees with a bit of rain sounds nice to me. It was -8 and very light breeze when I ran this morning and the sun was shining so it was quite a lovely run. I just finished baking the cookies (and ate a couple of course) and am sitting down to enjoy my cup of tea now before starting supper soon. A busy day off as usual.
My craving for chocolate chip cookies came because a friend of mine told me she had made some on Sunday. Obviously that is all I could think about for the last 2 days. Surprisingly my kiddo hasn't gotten in to them. He's too busy polishing off the Christmas candy tray I splurged on while shopping today. So maybe the cookies will last a couple days now...but the candy sure won't 😆
Well done SaskAlliecat you sounded like you toughed that run out, and with ailments onboard as well 🙂 get ya self mended and hey remember Sask a runs a run and better whatever than the run you didn't do 💪 love your frosty pics
You are so right lmc, a run is a run and lately with how hard it is to get out, I'll take whatever I get! I'm glad you like the frosty pics. I enjoy getting out and taking them.
Wow, busy busy day SaskAlliecat! I know you don’t have much choice but I do admire you running on snow and ice! Having broken my wrist when I slipped on the ice 2 years ago, I’m terrified of the stuff now! Glad you’re feeling better now, enjoy your next runs!
I totally understand the fear of slipping on the ice. I took a bad fall a few years ago and fortunately didn't break anything (just a bruised bum and pride). I feel a lot more confident with my spikes on my shoes (I wasn't wearing them when I took my fall). Of course when I'm trying to walk through the parking lot when I'm out shopping, I shuffle along pretty slow so I don't fall since I'm just wearing normal winter shoes or boots.
I think Garmin has a cheek calling your run "unproductive"! There's obviously no accounting for weather or running conditions when Garmin work things out. I think you've had a very productive day - run, cookies and supper all sorted 😊. Lovely photos - I've only seen hoarfrost like that a couple of times, most memorably up in Scotland when visiting my in-laws.
It was a productive day and for that I feel very thankful. It felt good to get out for a run and to pick up the pace a bit so I am not worrying too much about Garmin choice of words. We'll have to see how the next few runs go. It is time to try and get more regular with my exercise again though.
