Distance Day, Let’s Find Out What I’m Capable of Now

I’ve been toying with the idea of attempting a 15k for quite some time and having booked this week off work, today seemed as good a day as any.

I added a few new songs to the old playlist yesterday, just to freshen it up and I was up and out there this morning raring to go. I chose my alternative route and this time was equipped with my chest torch, for the darker stretches of road. This route leads to a pub called The Green Man, which we’ve often been to for meals, but sometimes it’s a case of us saying, it’s a bit of a trek (by car !) so we’ll choose somewhere closer to home. I’ve often thought what an amazing achievement it would be to actually be able to say I’ve run to it 🤔

So as it was 15k day, I fixed this goal in my head and set off, the dreaded hill at the beginning went well and I was over that and down the other side quite comfortably, as I ran along I had Coach Bennett’s normal words of advice to listen too, I quite liked the bit where he told me to select cruise control, for the middle part of the run, which funnily made sense as my legs just seemed to carry me along. New songs helped too M People Search for The Hero and What have You Done Today to Make You Feel Proud amongst others and before I knew it I realised I was nearing The Green Man Pub.

I remembered it had a hill leading up to it, but undeterred I found myself slowly running up this and having reached the top, I was there ! I’d made it ! It was closed of course so I had a virtual pint and headed home. I really had to focus on the way back, the downhill parts were nice, but I was soon back on the flat. Various landmarks encouraged me and music having ran out, I continued in silence....eventually I heard Coach say I’d reached 14k then 15k YEEESSSSS !!!!, I punched the air.

I realised then, that having fixated on reaching The Green Man Pub, I was still quite a way from home, so decided to ‘resume workout’ and managed to squeeze out another 1k.

I walked the rest of the way home with a beaming smile on my face 😁. Arrived home only to find the dog hadn’t been out for a walk 😫 So straight back out again and around the block, thankfully he was pulling me along....and I let him ! I eventually got back home and checked my Fitbit only to find out I’d covered over 20k !!!

Shower, bowl of porridge and back to bed for a few hours, but feeling triumphant.

Sorry it’s such a long post, but it was such a long run.

Wow, not far off 10 miles today! Good job you didn't have a real pint at the Green Man! I like the part about cruise control - good way of thinking about it!

I know ! I think I’d have fallen asleep on the way back 🥱. I think once you get into the run you are on cruise control, he also encourages you to take in your surroundings more as you run, which is good advice.

Such an amazing achievement too! Well done! Can't imagine running that far! Go you! 🤸💥🍾

Fantastic 10miles run, so very happy for you, and amazing achievement to reach your pub. I chose a similar route for my 1st 10k to run a circuit to the next village, it really is an amazing sense of achievement. Happy running 🤗

I’ve contemplated trying it for a long time, so it was great to actually reach it and a new PB distance wise.

Wow! That’s some distance!

How brilliant BB 👏👏👏👏 well done

( bed for you 7pm tonight after that!)

Seriously tho that’s brilliant! You should feel so chuffed with yourself, especially as that pub is a trek in the car 🚙 yet you have now ran to it!

Can only imagine you are buzzing 🐝

That M people song 🎧 🎵 gets me emotional ... what have you done today to make you feel proud?

The answer .... a 16k run plus a considerable walk back 👌

Forgive the language but that’s bloody brilliant!

I’m proud of you 👍 You deserve climbing back in bed for a few hours.. it’s earned! 🛏 😀

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Tinytears60

Thank you Jane 😊 I feel well chuffed, it was hard and I wouldn’t want to do to many of those, but it’s an achievement and I feel proud of how far I’ve come 😁

You do love a medal 😂

Hold the back page...This is 10 miles...as in ten big ones!! Wahoooooooooooooooooooo

Phenomenal run! So many things I like here:

1. Mentally you had your long distance in mind. I do this and it really helps. That you were able to extend was brilliant 👏

2. Great pace, love this for 2 hours...yes, you ran 2 hours!

3. You 'settled in' with a good pace

4. You punched the air...I do this too for a long one.

5. You are capable of runs and distances you previously wouldn't have imagined.

If you really, really had to then today you could have done HM. Not saying you needed to but if it was really necessary you would have reached this too so going forward this run will really, really do you the world of good. I'm thrilled you ran like this my friend. You deserve your 10 mile badge buddy 👍

Oooh. By the way do some distance km to m conversions so you know when you could hit a certain milestone!

Thank you GTFC, I appreciate your words of support and encouragement as always, your a real motivator and I value your advice. I had a picture in my mind of reaching that pub, and I was so stubborn and determined to reach it. Had to dig deep on the way back but I’m still amazed at what I can achieve these days, when I put my mind to it.

Congratulations!

It's going to be very useful when the pubs reopen too!

Thank you Week7 😊 I’m still surprising myself with what I’m capable of these days and loving finding out what I can actually achieve. I think I’d struggle to have run back if I’d had an actual pint, rather than a virtual one 😂
