Once Iβd done the first 2 miles around our village I set off on one of my favourite routes heading for the sea, up and over the ridge, around the seaside village, across the golf course and back down onto the seafront to finish. My neighbours kept popping up along the way to cheer for me and they really made me laugh. After the first 5k Iβd really settled into my stride and as I crossed the golf course I was stepping up the pace to βLet your love flowβ by the Bellamy Brothers.....and I was really enjoying myself, I was feeling strong and had lots of waves from the golfers. After 8k my legs suddenly felt heavy and I had a momentary panic βlactic acid alert!β so I eased off a bit, βjust keep goingβ ...until the last half k and was able to sprint over the finish line. π I was over the 10k slightly as I was worried about turning my watch off too early and coming up short! π
Mr J and a couple more friends were waiting to see me finish and one friend presented me with two yellow roses, the last from her garden. How lovely was that π₯°. Back home Mr J cooked us a delicious brunch and now we are settled on the sofa together with Freddy and weβre staying here for the afternoon.
Iβm so happy I started running again, this is definitely me, wherever have I been for the last 2 decades? I was so chuffed with the time I ran too, all my slow running has really paid off. So next year VRBβs I hope to run in London for real with you.
I know now I can achieve a long held goal of mine, to run a HM. So here I am at the end of my first 10k, and at the same time at the beginning of another very exciting chapter. I think it might start with feeling very stiff in the morning π
Thank you so much for all your stories, your advice, encouragement and support. ππππ
Iβve been thinking about you on and off this morning watching the vile weather and wind here, and waiting for your post.. hoping you had made it.. but of course you did!
Iβm absolutely delighted for you that you had better weather and that it went so well.. many congratulations.. have a lovely afternoon relaxing and celebrating.. fantastically well done!..ππππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈππ₯³π€
Thanks so much Peggy, the weather is terrible here now, I was so lucky. I think Iβm going to need an afternoon nap, so much excitement π ππ»π€
Itβs cleared up here now so weβre just heading out on a dog walk in bright sunshine.. weβve swapped weather at the right time.. Enjoy your nap.. I think you deserve it!..ππ€
What a wonderful post and huge congratulations on your 10k Mrs Jorge. Absolutely wonderful to read such a cheerful post ππ
Great to see the sunshine and your supporters came out to cheer you on your way.

π thank very much, it made such a difference with the supporters but more nerve wracking, definitely worked for me making it a charity run too, so much momentum built up this week, so pleased with how it all turned out and I got to run 10k too π€£π€π

Enjoy your afternoon on the sofa. Youβve definitely earned it π€
Thanks so much dijep, yes it made such a difference, I felt so lucky to have such support, especially for my fundraiser, in the end the 10k seemed almost incidental and yet it meant a lot to me to finally run the distance ππ€
That is fantastic. You look so happy! How lovely to have such encouragement from neighbours and friends too! You knew you could do it, I knew you could do it! The sun shone for you and you triumphed! I am grinning from ear to ear!
Aww thanks Roxdog, itβs amazing what we can all do with a little bit of support, I felt so happy running today, so much to be grateful for even in difficult times. I am so proud to be a part of this community, and my local community supporting me today in support of others, something much bigger than just me and my running .
Fabulous post π well done you, you look in your element in the photos and definitely looks like you had the best of the weather. So pleased for you, can't wait to see your progress forward π
You look so happy in that photograph, congratulations on completing your first 10K, well done, running in windy weather isn't all that pleasant, as that was your first 10K you will get the badge and word GRADUATE10 π next to your username by leaving a message in the pinned posts on the right side of the healthunlocked October Graduate10 homepage and tell the administrators that you have ran your first 10K, once again congratulations π.
Great run! And the sun came out for you as well βοΈ Brilliant!
And how lovely to have that support cheering you along the way. It was almost like a real race!π
I had the same 8k heavy legs panic - the water hubby brought to the Leisure Centre car park and a couple of jelly babies did the trick and, like you,I managed to speed up at the end. Way to go us! πͺ
We both had company on our runs today - Dolly was with you, and my best mate and her mum were with me. π€
Enjoy your relax on the sofa - you have earned it!
Thanks Buddy, yes this whole event and doing it as a Charity event for our local cancer unit has helped me realise what a great life I have here now. We relocated a few years ago and itβs been tough for many reasons but I feel so lucky to be where I am today and running again has certainly been an important part of this . πππ€
Lovely post from you and you look so proud! So a double whammy, first 10K and the vVitality 10,000! Many congratulations in achieving both ππππββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπ
What a great run that was Mrs J! It sounded like the running Gods were smiling on you today - as well as your neighbours, VRBs, friends and family. How lovely that you were greeted at the finish too!!! I hope you bask in that 10k glow and haveca lovely celebration πΎ .
Congratulations and I can't wait to hear about your next steps!!! π₯³πΈπ ππππ€ΈββοΈπΎπ·π₯πΉπΉπΉ
Thanks Fionamags, it couldnβt have worked out better, ....apart from losing my music several times and my race support....Mr. J had taken my jacket with my jelly babies in and then couldnβt find me again π€£ I ran faster than both of us expected! It was a wonderful day ππ€
Thrilled to read your positive post Mrs J. Congratulations!! Isnβt it great to have such positive support. Roses? Thatβs very special indeed...like you you and your run.
Well done Mrs J! That is fantastic and so well deserved as it hasnβt been an easy or straightforward journey. As you described your route I was picturing it in my mind and feeling quite nostalgic, one day I will come back to my birth place and perhaps run with you (although Iβll need a year to catch up to your pace/distance!!
Evening Phdgranny and thank you. I set off past your old house this morning and ran past your grandads too, I often think of you when I pass by... you are right itβs been a bumpy road but so glad Iβve kept on going with it whenever I can as Iβm sure you will be. How lovely it would be one day if you came back to run around your old haunts with me, Id love to hear more stories of past times ...I am a huge fan of slow easy pace running so weβd be perfectly matched. I think the combination of the wind behind me pushing me along, the excitement and knowing I was running for more than just me really moved me along today but next week I shall be back to my happy slow run pace.
Evening Sonia, thank you, it was a brilliant run today, so enjoyed it, like you said it wasnβt the Thames but it was the North Sea and I loved it. Next year , if it happens for real, it will be The Thames and hope youβll get there too. ππ€π»
Thanks sgr it was a perfect day, loved the distance too, looking forward to doing more longer runs but maybe easier pace and without the pressure π€ππ»
Booooom π₯π₯π₯π₯
Many congratulations on a significant milestone run π₯
I'm so pleased that you have achieved this and with some really wonderful support. You have achieved something very special today. Your journey has a real highlight here. The next chapter is about to be written and I can't wait to read all about it πππππ

Thank you π it was so much fun and also a relief to discover that the slow running training really does work. π π€ΈββοΈ I wasnβt far off my PB for both 5kβs sewn together π and without time or pace even being in the focus. I guess I shouldnβt be surprised after 10 months of regular running and 4 months of it working my way round and round Jujuβs magic plan. The most important thing Iβve learned from running and this wonderful forum is that our capacity to run is a gift, in which we can all find so many and varied treasures.
I'm good thanks....I've had a health issue other than my achilles, but on the mend now. Hoping to get back and do C25K again sometime soon. You lot on here keep my interest piqued π
Glad to hear youβre on the mend Wenderwoo, and planning to get those running shoes back on soon... yes so busy on here which is great , so many more people have discovered the joy of running this year π€ΈββοΈπ€
Congratulations Jorge; if you could bottle that joy and sell it you would be a billionaire!! A very special day for a very special runner.πππππ₯π₯π
Thanks Week7 I will, looking forward to my first bling coming in the post, hopefully the first of many and hopefully one day running real races with some of my lovely VRBβs π That will be a special day π€
Thanks Blackberrypie, yes in some ways it was a relief to discover it worked, I knew I should be able to do it but the doubt gremlins were hovering overhead when I set off, fortunately there was a strong wind behind me and blew them all away ππ€
Haha! Rested on my laurels yesterday thinking ' Hey, I'm not feeling that bad at all ' and towards the end of the day the aches started setting in so up this morning and went for a run just for a couple of km. Hot bath later - hopefully this will have done the trick π€ Enjoy your well deserved rest!
π sounds a good plan 59er, think I need to do the same tomorrow, my hamstrings and calves are a bit tight, & stiff hips but nothing drastic that a slow jog wonβt put right, amazingly my groin ( which I strained slightly on Wednesday is fine π ). I suppose now we do it all over again π€£π€
Congratulations on your first 10k, and doing the VV10K jorge. It was good to see you so well supported. I see you already have stepped up on to the podium collect your shiny Graduate10 badge. It looks so good. Now you can join us in the queue for T-shirt and medal. Whoop whoop.
Thanks Dexy, it was the last minute banana π, sure that helped along with the tail wind, Iβm delighted and proud to join such a great queue of runners πββοΈ πββοΈ π€ΈββοΈπ€
Hello Catho78, thanks π I had an amazing day. Iβve just been reading your posts and very well done on your first 5 k a couple of weeks back, I hope youβre still going strong on your consolidation. Itβs taken me 10months to get to 10k with one thing and another but it was so worth it. Mid way I was getting a bit frustrated with myself for not running as much or as far or as fast as I could but something clicked mid Summer and after that my main goal was to just love it whatever I could do. Iβve been plodding along, consolidation for weeks after Couchto5k and then the last 3 months doing Jujus Majic Plan, first the distance one and then starting over again with the distance. So just to say I hope you enjoy being on the bridge to 10k as much as I have .
Thanks Cantsoimgonna a few more miles to add to LEJOG, been so busy havenβt logged my miles for a few days so hoping Iβm over into Wales, illegally of course π π€
