Virtual Vitality 10k - Lincolnshire style

The sun blazing down from a cloudless blue sky and barely a breath of wind - what a contrast with the last couple of days! Had my running kit including VRWC T-shirt laid out ready, but sadly no bib or chip. Remembered my water bottle too. I had set out with a plan to go sub 60 and it all started so well with a 5.53, 5.58 and 6.04. Hit 5k in 30.48 which was pretty much where I wanted to be but then my pace started to drop slightly and by 7k I knew I couldn’t make up the time but was still just about on track for a PB (under 1.02.40). Then at 8k I hit the wall, the heat got to me and I hobbled in in 1.04.25. Bummer ☹️Still, it was 7 minutes faster than last week’s hot 10k and Mr Sandie made me a souvenir medal - Amazon gift wrap ribbon, top off the dog treat tube and a slightly rudimentary software package. He couldn’t find a real runner image so used a bunch of runner beans to represent our little band of VRBs 😂🤣 Congratulations to all my buddies on your virtual runs this morning and happy Bank Holiday.

Great effort in the heat and sounds like a lovely caring husband to make that wonderful medal, special meaning compared to getting the same as everyone else. Fantastic time, well done. Happy running 🤗

Thank you 😊 I think he’s still rather bemused by this woman I’ve turned into over the last 2 years. We were just saying the other day what a shame it is that all our plans have been cancelled so far this year - for him to add “but they were all based around your running” 😂😂

Cracking medal there Sandie! Well done on your run, even if you’re a bit disappointed with the time! But it’s hot out there!👏👏👏

Fab isn’t it? I will treasure it as a memento of these strange times!

As I do the medal Dexy and UTS gave me for my first 10k!

That sounds as though your Garmin pace trace is going to look exactly like mine, up to 9k at least! Great effort that girl :-) And love hubby's remarks about plans for the year …..

I don’t do Garmin, just Strava on my phone but it does plummet and flatline for the last 2k. Ah well! I did try to contradict Mr S, but then realised it was all true 😂

I love it - he disappeared into our home office on Saturday afternoon and emerged a little while later with it!

Well done on a hard 10k!!

I resonate with 'hobbled in' but you got through it and what a way to celebrate!!

That is a lovely souvenir medal that Mr Sandie made you, I also ran the "Vitality Virtual London 10,000" Scottish style, this was my 6th 10K, was hoping to run it sub 75 minutes, my time was 73.21.😊🏃🏾

Too hot for Sub 30 attempt, but well done for having a go Sandie. I still think that 31.5 /28.5 ish is probably the way to go for me. Hopefully I will get the chance to test it in future. That is a really great run Sandie and a very creative and thoughtful medal. It look forward a to having us all in the same actual run at some point....need to hurry up before I get too old for this lark!!🥇🏆😊😊👏👏

Haha Beachcomber66 a sub 30 😳 I’m not rocket powered 😂 Know what you meant 😃 I was going for 31/29. It would’ve been even hotter “down south”! Let’s hope when we do finally make it, it’s a bit cooler and we might stand a fighting chance!

Doh....sub 60 ....it's the heat I tell you!🌟🌟

I think I could only manage a negative split over 10k if I was regularly running at least 10 miles. It’ll be nearer 29/31 if I do make it eventually - and the last k will be gritted teeth stuff 😝

A fantastic medal from Mr Sandie and I’m happy to be represented by a runner bean 😁. There’s no doubt it was getting warmer out there and I think London would have been hot hot hot 🥵. It was great to run it with everyone virtually, but meeting up whenever we can will

Be so much sweeter.

Well done Sandie. Sounds like we had very similar runs in terms of the pace and the heat - all good fun though!👍

Tailchaser and I were hardcore, running without water! We finished before it got proper hot though 😁

Awesome Sandie, and who cares about not hitting your sub 60 today? It was still a fantastic time! 🎉🎉🎉

Shame we couldn’t do the real thing, but there’s always next year. 😀🤞🏃‍♀️🏃

Love your medal! I forgot to organise one from my lot, but never mind. I’ll make do with one on here! 🏅

🤣🤣 I wondered what the beans were about!! Still a great run even if you didn't do the planned time, it was still a lovely run.

If you want to do a sub 60 then our Stratford 10k is perfect for that. It's still on at the moment but it's pushing it at 6th September so I think it's unlikely (Kenilworth HM is cancelled the following week and we were planning to do that 😥).

I noticed a post that Lincoln 10k has been rearranged to 1 November, so that might be a possibility. I took 4 minutes off my PB this year!
