Advice please, Ju Ju’s Week 1 tomorrow!

Hi all,

I’m starting Ju Ju’s plan tomorrow and am taking your advice to start with the timed plan.

My last three consolidation runs all took about 45 mins. Is the idea that I try to run faster than usual for the shorter period of time? The last three consolidation runs I managed 5k each time. The first run tomorrow is just 15 mins. Should I be trying to get to say 2k?

We started the timed plan last year but gave up during the dark wet winter runs, recently started the distance version and it’s definitely challenging for slow runners like us

I found the 15 minute run a bit dissatisfying but did run much faster because we weren’t going to run far, but everyone is different and so run a comfortable pace for you, you will speed up over the next few weeks naturally so i wouldn’t push beyond comfortable

Thank you WillowandSola, I’m really slow usually so am looking forward to getting up to speed and some wind blowing through what hair I have left!

If you're on the timed version of the plan then it's just about running for the planned time, rather than aiming for distance. Good luck!

You will love it I'm sure!

You'll love the plan! The timed version is purely about running to the time and it is quite a refreshing novelty to run for shorter durations. I used the shorter runs to experiment a bit and to see if I could up my pace, which worked really well for me and had a knock on effect on my longer runs eventually too. You will be surprised at howquickly it goes, but do stick to the time and keep the two walks at either end to warm up and cool down. Enjoy!

Thank you so much Delly-dot. I hadn’t thought about the two five minute walks so will build those in too. I’m looking forward to it all again, I never thought I’d ever get to 5k let alone starting out to try to get to 10k......who would ever have thought an ageing couch potato like me would ever be doing this. The decision to get off the sofa was quite momentous!

Yay! Congratulations on starting the Magic 10K Plan tomorrow! As others have mentioned - the times run is all about the amount of time moving! I made the mistake of thinking 🤔 both the timed and distance versions needed to be achieved in one so I was very confused at the beginning!

If you are achieving 5K in 45 mins for your consolidations then you’ll probably be smashing around 1.6/7K for your 15 minutes 👍

Take it slow! Look forward to your updates! 🤗
