the build up to my vitality 10,000 challenge has not gone well.
Despite the limited contacts and social distancing I think somehow (how? 🤷🏻♀️) I’ve picked up a virus ( not THE 🦠) unless it’s just me beginning to fall off my perch 😆🤣 I’ve been feeling so rough, drained and flatter than a pancake.
Last week I missed one run but managed an 8k last Saturday but was then horrified when I looked at my stats to see my heart rate spent a fair bit of time around 180bpm and I was jogging pretty slowly! (my average for the run was 148bpm). I’d actually turned my polar heart rate monitor off as it kept beeping so much I thought it was malfunctioning and I kept going, ....but actually it was me 😱 malfunctioning. Strangely at the time I didn’t feel too bad, hence running the planned 8k.
Anyway I still didn’t feel too well this week and missed my first 2 runs. I had a terrible nights sleep last night and woke early so I decided to head off to see how I was. It was raining but I didn’t mind so much even though I’m not a fan of rainy runs. It was very hard, I needed a lot of walking breaks, felt very tired after just 15 mins and then after a bit of a walk on a hilly bit picked up again. I managed just over 6k and I was relieved to see my average heart rate was back to normal at 123bpm. It felt like I worked much harder. Feeling shattered again now so really hoping my energy picks up soon.
I’ve moved my first 10k, vitality challenge back a week to the last weekend of October so hopefully with the extra week I can get there. My bib arrived this week and it would be such a shame not to give it an outing.
Well done to so many completing their first 10k recently, I’m really hoping to join you soon.
Thinking of those who are locked down again this week and hope the running can help.
Stay safe 🤗
