Look what I did today...and suffered the consequences!

I finally beat my previous longest run record this morning and it felt goood!

The only thing is that I now have an excruciating pain in the right side of my mid back. That muscle is always tight and I’m guessing that the longer distance and the cool weather were just too much.

I’ve put a hot water bottle on it and rolled a golf ball under it (feels amazing) and will do some yoga this evening or tomorrow. Is there anything else I should try? The muscle feels like stone and I’m trying to be active.

Still, really chuffed about the distance logged (walked some of the steep uphill) but hoping to get some relief for the back :/

Such a good run but I feel so sorry for you regarding your back, you will just have to rest a bit and hopefully the pain will go.

Thanks AlMorr! Not sure what's going on with the back but I remember a similar issue last winter. Lots of warmth for those muscles after each run. Hope your running is going well!

Thanks sofaspud, my running is going well, this Wednesday morning I have just come back from my midweek 8K run, ran in exactly 59 minutes, like a 5K I am happy if I can get that ran sub 35 minutes, 8K sub 60 minutes. 😊🏃🏾👍

What a great way to start a Wednesday - 8km! And in under 60 minutes too...well done!

It seems to me that 8K is becoming one of favorite distances, that was my 4th single only 8K, all ran sub 60 minutes, of course a goal would be to run a 10K sub 60 minutes but that is a dream, I am happy with a sub 60 minute 8K .

Great run and an impressive distance Sofaspud, hopefully the back will feel better soon 👍

Thanks Couchphoenix. I was thinking about you this morning as I embarked on a NRC run - one fast, 2 slow. It was a fartlek, which I find challenging, but it was short and fast! Hope you're doing well!

Yeah doing good thanks, last 2 runs have been using the Zombie Run app, managed to outrun one of them on the second one 🏃‍♂️🧟‍♂️ still use the NRC ones too, good to mix it up sometimes. Never tried fartlek find thought of that bit daunting, maybe brave it one day 😬

Ooooh. I've heard about that app but have never tried it. Could you give a synopsis of how it works?

Fartlek is good. The first time I tried the "One Hard. Two easy" I was completely winded! This morning was much better, though, and with the cool down I reached the 5km mark. There's also the "Two hard. One Easy" but that's for another day when I'm braver!

Keep running!
