I unexpectedly ran my first 10k on my birthday this afternoon!
It wasn't planned, as I was due to run 9k today, but it happened a little by accident as my husband and I had a muddle with our post run meet up plans. He rang me as I approached 9k to say he was actually about 10 minutes behind me, when the plan had been that he was running an entirely different route and we were going to meet elsewhere.
"Don't drive away without me!" was his plea as the heavens opened and it absolutely poured with rain.
Well, I thought. I'm wet. I can either walk 5 minutes to the car and get cold, or I could just keep running in the rain for an extra 1k and keep warm until Mr DD catches up.
So that's what I did, and I grabbed myself my first 10k to boot! Whoopee!
π Drove home under a stunning rainbow but as I was driving I couldn't take a photo! π
Meanwhile in the Land of LEJOG5 I am now cruising along the M5 about to be overtaken by a silver mini! I am passing "Houndsville", a playpark for dogs, so thought I would take Isla for a virtual dog walk and some fun and games!
Awwww I missed that first time round! There I am! That's super cute. Thanks for including me.
I'm still a couple of weeks off my first 10k. I'm saving it for the day before what would be my daughter's 4th birthday - she was born sleeping days before her due date. I think running it in her honour will spur me on.
Amazing! Love your accidental 10k! Accidental runs are the best! Did you wear your new shoes? I knew you would do it soon. Here's to many more long runs.πββοΈπ₯
Thank you π. Didnβt wear the new shoes today as it wasnβt really the right terrain, plus I think Iβd better break them in gradually on a shorter run. Iβll give them their first outing on what is bound to be a very muddy 4K later this week.
Congratulations Delly-dot! Sometimes when itβs raining thereβs no point in doing anything other than carrying onπ I enjoy running in the rain and it tends to keep pedestrians inside, which is a bonusπ You can only get wet once too, if you think about it!π
Very well done on your first 10K, itβs such a milestone and almost a rite of passage!ππππ
Thank you π. The end of my run coincided with home time at the high school at the end of my route, so I had lots of pedestrians on my route - lots of teenage walkers and cyclists for company! I was sporting my best wet look of course, but with a big grin on my face!
A very happy birthday to you Delly dot, what a lovely surprise and birthday present to yourself, congratulations on running your first 10K, remember to tell the administrators on the Healthunlocked October Graduate10 homepage that you have ran your first 10K, it's in the pinned posts on the right side of the page., now go and celebrate a double celebration, your birthday and your first 10K. π ππΎ π You will then see the badge and the word GRADUATE10 next to your username.
Thank you! It was so great to do this today and even better because it was unplanned. Double celebration accomplished with a couple of glasses of wine π₯π.
So lovely to hear from you Wenderwoo. Happy Birthday for last week ππ₯³. How is everything with you?
How absolutely incredible!!
Massive congratulations on your 10k run and birthday!! πππππππ½π₯
I'm absolutely delighted for you. That is a super time too. You must be thrilled π 10k β

Thank you GTFC. I hadnβt even thought about the time until I got home. It was raining so hard that I just stopped my watch and couldnβt really see. Thankfully it auto saved! π
Way to go DD next it'll be I've actually ran errrr 26 miles π
What a day of celebrations D-d! I hope youβve had a lovely birthday and a massive well done on your first 10k! But do be careful out on the M5 - it can be very dangerous for runners!
Thank you OGR. Iβd love to have a more scenic photo to share but my overnight stops always have me on dual carriageways or surrounded by embankments or hedges!!
Happy birthday π and super well done on your 10k and a great time! Hope you've enjoyed the rest of your birthday
Brilliant birthday post Delly, and a great big hooray π ππ»ππ»ππ»π€ΈββοΈπ₯³π₯ for your 10k, one to remember for sure. Glad the sky painted you a rainbow on your way home, what a special day. Enjoy those lovely new shoes, have you already had them on in the rain π±
A very happy birthday champ π ππ€

Thank you π. I didnβt run in my new shoes today as I the surface was good for my trainers. Iβll break my new trail shoes in during the shorter runs. The rainbow π made up for the downpour!!
Yaas! 10k is a great milestone - well done! I'm doing LEJOG5 as well - can't remember what VRB stands for, but I'm somewhere between Weston Super Mare and Portishead. I see some absolute machine has finished already π, & I'm not even in Wales yet!
I canβt believe someone has finished already. A machine indeed! VRB means virtual run buddy. Thereβs a few of us from the forum keeping tabs on each other and sharing a bit of fun along the way. Join us ππ¬π§!
Congratulations Delly Dot - that's fantastic! Your first 10k sounded effortless - that's amazing. A none too shabby time too. That will help the LeJog effort too.... Medals and trophy for you, I think! ππ ππ₯ πππ
