After Saturday's somewhat chilly excursion, I decided to treat myself to some warmer kit - leggings and a long sleeved top - collected them last night and I fully intended to give them a trial. Sadly the weather took a turn for the worse and flippers and a wet suit would have been more apposite attire...
This morning then, a cursory glance out of the window saw the big yellow thing just crawling above the horizon, so new kit on, and off we go! Set off at a moderate pace, sticking to tarmac in view of the wet grass, no particular goal in mind beyond getting round and being back home ready to leave for work at about 9.10. Toxic 10 wasn't too bad today, things seemed to loosen up pretty well (warmer muscles in the new leggings maybe?) and the first couple of splits were pretty encouraging, settled down to a pretty consistent 6.15/km.
Ms Strava told me that I'd done 4k in 25:03... hmm, can I do a sub 31 minute 5k? Enough in the tank? Go on, we'll have a go, lengthen the stride... dang, single file bridge and someone coming the other way, turn round, run in a circle till they have gone, must have cost me 5 seconds or so... go on, 0.5k to go, GFI... "total distance 5 kilometrres, total time 30;41"... YES! probably would have been even better but for the woman on the bridge...
Feeling quite pleased with myself now, best time so far, and not bad for a 55yo bloke... onwards and upwards, next one another 9k this weekend, then all being well 10k next weekend!
