I decided yesterday that discretion was the better part of valour, and in the interests of my arthritic shoulder decided not to brave the wind and rain, hence this morning I set off for the second of my 9k runs before the big 10 next weekend.
It was still a bit grey and damp, and I had to replan my route on the fly a couple of times due to flooded paths. There were also a lot of "proper runners" with all the kit and numbers and everyfink out today, one or two of whom looked a bit askance at the chubby bloke puffing and huffing along, and one was adamant that he was going to barge his way past me on the single file bridge (it would have put 3 seconds into your time to slow down a bit and let me off mate, I was only 6 feet off the end!).
Ms Strava and some classic electro and post-punk on Spotify kept me motivated, and when her dulcet tones said that I'd done 8k in 53 minutes something, well, go on, let's try for a sub 60 minute 9k...and... 59 minutes 31 seconds! Seemed daft to stay there so carried on until the timer on my tracker watch buzzed for the hour. No record times (although the last km was 6 minutes 6, not bad for the last km of the longest run I've ever done!), but a record distance and a warm feeling inside (probably the new cold weather gear!).
Oh, and as I was walking the last 100 yards along the street to my house, it started raining...!

Sounds great!! Well done you and well done for not decking the pillock who pushed past you on the Bridge - there’s always one!! And YOU are a proper runner too!!
I’m still in my pjs looking out the window at the hedge that is being blown nearly horizontal in the beating rain. Last week I ran 10k when I was supposed to be running 7.., and this week I haven’t even managed a 4k run yet. 😭. So fed up of this windy rain!!! I don’t mind drizzle or even normal rain but this takes your breath away and as an asthmatic that doesn’t help at all.🤣
Here’s hoping it eases later and I can sneak out for a run or at least a walk/run.
My problem is an arthritic shoulder, cold and damp combines to make it incredibly painful to the extent I can't sleep... hence one of the reasons I decided to pass yesterday, the other being the 3.30am phone call from work after someone read the wrong week's on call roster!
Hoping it clears up and you manage to get out later on, here in the Midlands we seem to be in between two bands at the moment so it's a bit patchy.
No it’s just continuous Wind and rain here and I’ve just discovered it’s coming in the garage roof too now!! Buckets and polythene everywhere now until we can fix it.
We were lucky and missed the floods that swept through our street last month as our back garden wall deflected it. Only house in the street that didn’t get 2 feet of flood water swirling through the house. And now this!!!
Oh no! Hope the damage isn't too bad and is fixable. Sadly weather like we've been having finds all the weak points and it's an absolute pain trying to repair them or at least shore things up till you can get a proper job done.
