I couldnβt keep in Zone 3 on Saturday, so felt I hadnβt really had a slow run. Decided to have another go today. Maybe a really slow 5K.
What to wear? I was cold on Saturday, particularly my hands and I think that may have contributed to my heart rate being higher. Itβs raining here this morning. So I decided on running tights, long sleeved top, windproof /waterproof jacket, gloves and my trusty sun visor, which keeps the rain off my glasses and my headphones in place! I was looking forward to running in the rain! π
I started running on the single track lane running parallel to the river. The surface has just been laid and the tarmac has a slight soft feel, very nice to run on! I settle into a pace in zone 3, relieved to see that I can do it today. I go as far as I can and touch the gate before I turn round (because thatβs what you do π).
Coming back out onto the main road I donβt know what happened. I donβt even know if I can describe it! It was drizzling, but I wasnβt really getting that wet because of my jacket. Queen was playing through the headphones π§ πΆ and I was singing along with the music and moving my hands with the rhythm. Iβm right in the centre of the village, 2K into my run and I suddenly felt so happy to be out running and singing! The mood kept with me for the whole of the run. I was waving to tractor drivers (there are a lot of them right now) not just to thank them for moving over, just waving and smiling and they were waving back. The Queen album ends and I decide I fancy singing in Spanish so I put Santana on and off I go again. The rhythm is perfect for my mood and Iβm practically dancing as Iβm running. I have to stop at one point as I start to encroach into Zone 4, so Iβm standing on the road, dancing and singing to Santana! Rain pouring down and Iβm loving it! I wish I could bottle this feeling and take it home with me! π₯°
I hadnβt intended to run for an hour, but this run was no effort at all and the time just crept up. I ended it just over an hour. I see Strava has robbed me of a few seconds, but today, I donβt even mind. π§ πββοΈπΆππ

Thanks π. Jacket is great, I love it. Itβs fitted and very light. Kept my top half dry as a bone.
How wonderful a run is that π, perfect. I love the image of you singing and waving, what a happy place you have found. Iβm not quite at the singing out aloud stage but almost π .... my slow running attempt this morning was very similar, best ever attempt to keep my heart rate low for nearly an hour. Now I need a rain jacket, which one do you have Jools? It sounds just the job.
Haha, yes, maybe you should! I have a few Spanish albums and I always learn all the words and check any vocabulary I donβt know. I learned Spanish in school, studied it at college and worked in Spain; I love the language.
I love Spanish. My father has spoken it to me since I was a child (he's not spanish), so I understand it very well, but speak it less well. I love flamenco, so may add some to my playlist and croak along!
Thanks π Tinytears60 , yes I like to think so; I noticed a few car drivers laughing as they drove past the mad woman in the rain π. How are you feeling today? π
I wish I had been there to see that! What a wonderful picture you painted with that description of your wonderful run in the rain this morning. Anyone seeing you would have thought you were some crazy lady! π
We had rain too this morning. It's stopped now but looks threatening again - I will need to keep an eye out as my running kit is pegged out to dry for tomorrow morning.
That's a pretty awesome view you have from your garden as well by the way
Crazy - but happy! You know, I just didnβt care π.
The view is gorgeous if you love the fen landscape. The reeds in the foreground are just beyond the end of our garden and are visited every year by a gorgeous little reed warbler. Iβve been out there for hours before trying to get a shot! Managed a few really good ones of him warbling.
It was! And to think I nearly didnβt have it. I usually do some kind of speed work on Tuesdays and you canβt dance to Santana and run fast at the same time π
πΆSiiinging in the raain πΆ the joy is radiating out of every word of your post! I've got the biggest smile on my face, thank you π it's just the best feeling isn't it π
What a nuisance! I donβt think that you get a head cold with Covid. Good that you are feeling better, though. I guess you just have to ride it for a few more days, then go on a short run to assess whatβs going on. Hope you feel well enough to run soon π€
Yes will have to restart with a slow short run for sure as I'm sure I've lost some of my fitness already. So just got to keep my head down and get better and take it from there π
