Running in the rain

As a C25k graduate of summer 2018 today was my first run in proper rain. I enjoyed it, but made the newbie mistake of forgetting to waterproof my running shoes. I run without my glasses so also wasn’t good at spotting the puddles. Oh well I hope they dry out before Friday’s short run on week 2 of ju-ju’s plan 😀

Stuff them with newspaper and leave them somewhere a bit warm (not the oven). They'll be fine for next time :-)

How do you waterproof running shoes? Put polybags over them? Running wellies anyone?

I have never heard of anyone waterproofing them, some claim a water repellant coating, others claim to be waterproof. I'd avoid the waterproof ones though if you get hot feet.

Excellent tip above about the newspaper, but also make sure you take out the insoles if they are removable(water sits under them)

And if you wear a peaked cap it helps keeps the rain of your face which helps with vision (keeps glasses relatively rain-free too)

Yes baseball cap definitely helps. To be honest having worn contact lenses for years and being forced back to glasses I’m happy for any excuse to not wear them

Lovely view!

It's troublesome to waterproof running shoes. Whatever you do the water will probably get in somehow, and in that case you really want it to be able to drain out again easily. It is probably best to grin and bear it; or wait for dry weather 😊

Was considering using the spray I use on my walking boots but maybe best to leave it and concentrate on avoiding big puddles 😀

Ha ha! Made me chuckle 🤣 I keep meaning to run without my glasses but half way round realise they're still on!

Your post makes me think I may stick with the specs so I avoid potholes, puddles and dog 💩!

Wet shoes are part of the experience - best way is to embrace the rain!! 🌧🏃🏽‍♀️💦 I am a fully certified puddle-splasher, especially if out in the country; it takes me back to my childhood I think!😉 When you get home pull the insoles out and stuff them with newspaper and leave to dry! If they are muddy, just hose off and then stuff with newspaper! Also, I hate wearing anything on my head but in heavy rain a running cap makes a huge difference. I have a lightweight summer one that I use.🙂
