long 8km trail run! hard going

This morning we were lucky enough to go to a nature reserve near the beach for our long run. There were so many different trails, but we decided to take the 8k. I was tempting for the 10, but am very happy I didn't!! Why? I'v never been running off road - and wow is it tricky! The paths we constantly up and down, either grassy and buy, or sandy (sandy!! i.e. like running through mud). Luckily there was some distraction in the form of deer and other animals, but unfortunately not enough to distract me from my lack of breath.I swear I felt sometimes it was 2 steps forward 1 step back.

Sometimes, like my last run, things just feel good, and you feel strong. Today? I couldn't catch my breath, my legs were burning, and honestly I was SO tired by the end. Today was not the day for a pb, or anything near the sort; but instead I was just happy to complete it by the end! it took us 45 minutes roughly, and frankly it felt like I'd run a marathon by the time I got to the end!

That is a very good time for you considering the conditions, a 45 minute 8K would be a sub 60 minutes 10K if you had ran that distance, about 57minutes, well done. 😊 🏃🏾

thanks! :) considering my 10k time is definitely over a hour it makes sense why i was so tired afterwards!

I intend to run 8K on Wednesday morning, it will be the longest run I have ran since the 10 mile run exactly two months ago, I have ran plenty of 5K's since then but nothing longer, I hope to run that 8K sub 1 hour, perhaps 55 minutes.

Gosh, that seems a nifty pace for those conditions- no wonder you were tired. I ran on the coastal footpath in Cornwall while I was on holiday- it was wonderful, but I was slower than usual & tired. - But when I got home I could feel that I had become stronger. 😄

ahhh the coast but be so pretty but tough! Usually i run on the complete flat due to the geography over here, so even some little hills had me feeling all puffed out! Hopefully my next run will feel comparatively easier :)

First off roader and a 45 minute 8k on the trails? Congratulations to you, that’s an amazing run right there!

thank you!!

That's still a good time though and great experience! I'm not a big trail runner. Lots of other people on here are but you did so well. Have a look at this. See if you two enjoy it. youtu.be/QFNhnfK5hp8
