Seemed a bit of a grueller tonight, the calf muscles took ages to loosen up for some reason (yes, I did stretch after Saturday's 8k, and took 2 rest days), had at least 2 litres of water during the day, all the usual precautions... somehow tonight though, I felt like I couldn't fill my lungs somehow. It is hot and sticky mind you, but this 4k seemed harder than many a run I've done before.
No PRs, but a wringing wet t-shirt, slightly stiff calf muscles and 2 empty water bottles in quick succession! I only hope that Thursday's 5k goes a bit better, back to the morning runs for that one (got a work medical at 11.50 so that's a bit of an incentive to get out first thing!) And can we please make sure the oxygen levels are topped up...?

That happened to me on my last run too! It was awful. Like I couldn’t get a deep enough breath, and was breathing too quickly, too shallow. I eventually bailed on the run, WAY sooner than I wanted to.
I even checked the humidity because I remember having an issue with it awhile ago before I learned how much it affects my runs, but the humidity was fine. It wasn’t as cool outside as the last couple runs I’ve had, but it def wasn’t as hot as others either. Just hope next time is a better run, for both of us!
I suspect that may have been an issue, the shortness of breath felt scarily like the feeling I used to get on hot days when the hay fever was in full effect and I knew I was in for a bad day.
I'd just pootle around at a slow steady pace for a lot of runs. It'll really help long term. This way it doesn't matter what the weather or humidity is too much. You've got some good pace there so just use it every now and then.
I've come to the conclusion that is kind of my natural pace, going much slower than that feels kind of uncomfortable somehow! In hindsight I think the heat and humidity had a lot to do with it.
Sounds like one of those runs... My guess would be the humidity, it really affects our breathing. On the plus side, you went out, clocked up some more kilometres at really good pace and the weather's getting cooler towards the end of the week so it should make for more comfortable running 👏👏
