Speed podcast - errrr how come I ran my slowest...EVER?! πŸ˜†

I set out for R1 W2 of Juju's Magic Plan and thought I'd give the speed podcast a go. I messed up! I didn't know it included a warm up walk so I did that then put it on. So i jogged for the podcast warm up. Then i made it to 3/4 of the way through the intervals and had done the 3k required for magic plan so stopped. I found i had to lengthen my stride as it seemed pretty slow but I kept losing count and didn't find the music helpful for fixing that. It was a hot mess!

When I looked at stats when I got home I'd achieved my slowest average pace of all time (7.15min/km - my 5k graduate pace was 6.41min/km) πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜† How is that possible?! Think I messed up somewhere. I did enjoy it though so that's the main thing right?! And it added to my lejog5 miles so whoop! On that i had a virtual hang out with @jorgeruns and @delly-dot. I couldn't resist a selfie.

Well done looking at the positives, that's the great thing about running and these long distance challenges, everything counts. Happy running πŸ€—

Hello neighbor, I’m pretty close to you on that image or at least was when last I could put my mileage in. But so one of the runner icons could be mine! πŸ‘‹πŸ½

I just finished a weeks worth of stepping stones, and although my legs move faster, my speed stayed the same. But I think it is about training your mind and legs to not fall back into their acquired pattern/pace in order to have the option of running faster. But I have yet to see that. 🀣🀣

Ah that's cool! I don't know how to look up folks by bib numbers but hi πŸ‘‹. You'll probably be long gone by now. I enter daily because I'm a geek and I move an arrow on my printed out version on my fridge to make myself feel motivated!

That's interesting because I definitely ran different. I'm more of a shuffler with short strides where I barely lift my feet (think that's why I had my catastrophic fall causing 4 stitches!) But this made me do longer slower strides. We'll see if it sinks in when i try again next week.

Nice! πŸ‘πŸΌMagnet arrow on printed map is a great idea!πŸ’‘ A really nice way to visualise achievement!

Yes, C25k+ podcasts made me run different as well, but not quite longer strides, rather shorter ones. And that’s what I thought was the reason for lack of increased speed.🀣🀣 But that was the stepping stones.

Tomorrow it will be β€˜stamina’ three times, and next week β€˜speed’.

So we both will hopefully see by then if it improved anything at all.

But as you, I’m also having fun exploring this new way of training.

I’ve been doing some cadence work and my coach says it’s a time to work on form, with a shortened stride... so it doesn’t necessarily bring faster pace with it. Do you know your previous cadence & stride length for comparison? Some people here would be naturally higher in cadence than the podcast asks for.

It's a virtual event run on another site - endtoend.run Everytime you run (or walk) you log your miles until you reach 874 (the distance of Lands End to John o' Groats ). So by the end of this year (or maybe sooner if a miracle happens!) I'll have run LEJOG virtually! They map your progress onto the actual route so it's cool at motivating you to run more.
