Lead wellies on today.

Since graduating, I've managed another 3x 10k runs, with a couple of shorter runs (5-7k) between each one. But today - bloody hell! Went out for a 5k in the glorious Scottish summer 🌧🌧🌧🌧🌧🌧😉, and had an absolute nightmare, with the aforesaid lead footwear. It was SO hard, and now I feel totally wrecked, with aching legs. Either this is getting harder for me, or maybe it (clutching at straws) was my shoes? I don't mind getting wet, incidentally - it goes with the location! I normally wear Brooks Ravenna & love them, but thought I'd give my Nike Pegasus a go for a shorter outing. I get the feeling that they may not be supportive enough for me. Thanks as always for any help/suggestions.

Sounds a bit dramatic for a change of shoes.

Have you checked your pace? Did you set off a bit quick in your new Nikes?

I agree, it does seem a bit drastic. No, pretty usual pace I think. I'm totally wiped out now.

Gosh - the mystery of a bad run! 🤷‍♀️Sometimes we just get them and the next time out we are back to normal, so 🤞. Other thoughts - was it humid? Or do you just need a cut back week, where you drop your distance back and give your body a rest - you are still very new to 10K. My thoughts are with the latter... Good luck!🙂

Hahahaha - not sure about humid, but it was tipping it down! Rain doesn't usually bother me though, so it's a puzzle. Maybe I'll ease off for a little bit as you suggest. Thanks!

Starting C25k in Feb, working full time, and age 54, and now grinding out 10ks?

You've completed a lot quickly and now pushing on too hard, maybe to do what you once did.

I would say slow down and do more shorter distances, even less than 5k.

I know, grinding out is a pretty accurate description! Just got a new dog as well, so have been crashing about with him. I guess I'll take it easier for a bit.

Well, I took your advice everyone (thanks as always), and rested - haven't run since the horror show on Wednesday . Went out this morning & managed 10k , just by taking it very slowly, and not really planning to - just kept going because I felt ok. Really enjoyed it (and coincidentally back to my trusted Brooks)! Pretty relieved right now 😅
