During my first short run on Juju’s magic 10k plan a voice in my head spoke to my ego (aka ‘Impatient Hare’)
‘Just stick to the plan’.
‘But I could easily run further, I’ve been running further...I......’ the Impatient Hare whined a little.
‘No, not today, we’ve taken considered time to choose this plan and we’re sticking to it.’
As I ran I remembered how years ago I had come across the advice ‘Stick with Plan A’ ( in a great book called ‘Seize the Day’ 366 Tips for Living) when researching what might help students overcome procrastination in their studies. This book still lives in our downstairs loo and Mr Jorge and I often read it.
Later I decided to print off the plan and hang it up by the door to help me stick with the plan and I now have the pleasure of adding a little smiley face 😀 next to to my completed runs. Simple but effective in maintaining motivation.
Today the voice was saying,
‘This Run is for your body and spirit, not your ego, her turn will come, but today we run slow’.
This one is tougher, but good works in progress.
Happy Sunday, I think the sun is on the way 😎. Here in the East anyway.
I love this...your loo book sounds fabulous, I love having something inspirational to read when I’m in there!!
And it’s so lovely to see the plan printed off with the smiley faces and notes. That will really give you a focus too. Huge well done on your achievement so far 😎
Wow! Seems like you've had a bit of an epiphany jorge. It is tempting to do your own thing but I think you're right. Just like C25K believe in the plan it will get you timely and safely to where you want to be. Maybe I should read the book on procrastination, its my biggest achilles heel.
I'mm in the East too and it was warming up quickly when I did my run this morning. Keep the faith jorge!
Yes Allbarron, I seem to have had a few lately, I think this running malarkey is teaching me a great deal more than just how to run....Seize the Day is full of great tips by 366 different people! not really about Procrastination but I used it lots when helping the students, the best thing I’ve found myself is to make a decision what I want to do and exactly WHEN, setting an actual time seems very important for me otherwise it’s always later, later, .....and getting everything ready in advance seems to work as then no thought required, I can just do it 😄 even if half asleep 😴
I am glad your Impatient Hare has settled down and you are enjoying the plan. We all need to give our inner-egos a talking to sometimes 🙄.
Mymojo, as I call mine, has been told there is a mandatory three days between runs for me this week as I am exhausted from shifting topsoil and working in the garden. Yoga and a dog walk are the only things on my agenda today!
I love your printed off plan - what a great idea! I'm off to do the same 😊

Your 3 days between runs sounds a great idea, I’m coming to think that a regular 3 x week on top of all my other activities, gardening, yoga, walking with hubby, golf and soon to start swimming again I am expecting far too much, so every other week I might just do two, I can still stick with the plan but adjust the number of rest days...then I may get those windows cleaned as well 🤣
Your post is so right - stick with plan A. Sooooo many times I’ve had a decent achievable plan or route before I’ve set off running and after starting my mind has changed the plan on the spare of the moment which then leads to hills to early on or starting too fast not having a walking break (if needed and then not being able to finish) etc etc. And also some smaller achievements, done for the mind or body (not ego) give you such a boost in order to encourage you further - good luck x
Hello Health2020, yes my little book says, ‘Remember Plan A was the one you spent time, in tranquility, working out. Plans B to Z are creatures of the moment’. I like the idea of naming those impulses to do something different ‘creatures of the moment’ makes them sound furry and friendly that just need a gentle firm No.
🤗
Greetings from The Humber Bank ! Love how you've printed it out. This plan is ace, there is no doubt. Although I personally didn't always stick to it, the plan offers a great way to move forward with confidence. I like the way you are trying different types of run too. Keep going and achieving!

Thanks GTFC, once I get my HRH IH trained a little better I might let her off piste once in a while 😉
I love a plan and sticking to c25k to the letter this time really worked for me. The Magic Plan is a corker too - one version down and now the distance one. Plan B is lined with bodies on couches....
It’s a good ideal to print off the plan and put it somewhere you(and everyone else!) can see it - mine’s on the door of the fridge freezer so I can’t miss it! Funny how those conversations fill our heads isn’t it?! Frustrating as well when all you really want is peace and quiet! Enjoy the rest of the magic plan!
Very wise! Glad you stuck to the plan. My inner competitive spirit sometimes rears its head I'm afraid and I just go for it! Not any more, I have the plan on my calendar. I think I've done it in the wrong order this week, but oh well, I am a natural rebel so to be expected!
We started the plan back in the depths of winter, I remember finding the short runs unsatisfying, we gave up in the cold dark wet winter evenings, I hope you stick to the plan better than we did
