Completed my bridge to 10k with a 5am run to Cardiff Bay this morning. I could hardly walk a year an a half ago after getting run over and suffering a brain injury so it's been a slog and a half, and I'm feeling pretty proud right now. Where do I look for advice on furthering training from here? Next stop half marathon I guess
Finished 10 k today! :): Completed my bridge... - Bridge to 10K
Finished 10 k today! :)
Well done on an amazing achievement
Oh wow, what an achievement, especially after what you’ve been through GuybrushThreepwood. It just shows how strong and willing our bodies are, and hopefully running has given you a focus.
Spend a good while consolidating distances up to 10k - like you no doubt did after achieving 5k - then maybe start creeping one of your weekly runs up. Personally I added 1km every other week to begin with, then weekly when I felt able. 10 miles (16.1k) would be a good target, but absolutely no hurry. Cross training is important too as distances get longer.
You’re doing brilliantly, so slow and steady and you’ll get there! 👊 😀👏
What a fantastic achievement, you overcame and conquered! I can imagine the huge grin on your face when you crossed the 10K finish line and Cardiff bay looks stunning in the sunrise.
When I finished the 10K challenge I dropped back and did some shorter 7/8K runs and then built up to 16K (10 miles). There is an Autumn Half Marathon club which has just started on Marathon Racing and Race Support. Whatever you decide to do enjoy your running and celebrate your success.
Fantastic achievement!, well done, congratulations 👍😊
What an amazing achievement, you deserve to feel very proud. Do a bit of consolidation at this distance exploring new routes and bedding in your knowledge then have a look at the marathon forum on here. Good luck. Happy running 🤗
Thanks everyone. Sorry, what do you mean by consolidation exactly? I'm doing 3 5k runs, one every other day, followed by a longer one which I've increased by 10% increments to 10k. Should I start increasing the distance of the shorter runs? Also, when can I start running daily rather than leaving a rest day in between every time?
Consolidation means spending a bit of time getting comfortable with the distance you’ve achieved. That doesn’t necessarily mean running a 10k each week, you might choose to run 7k a bit faster or choose a more challenging run with a few hills or just exploring new routes. Basically mix things up for a few weeks have some fun and build confidence in your new found running skills before you set yourself a new challenge.
I’m not sure how new to running you are, but the basic rule of thumb is a rest day between each run for the first six months, especially true if you’re over 50. 😬
However you choose to progress enjoy and happy running. 😊
What an inspiration you are!!!! Brilliant achievement after what you have been through🎉🎉🎉🎉 I bet you feel amazing!! Can’t offer any advice sorry as I am still on a 10k plan so behind you, but the advice you will get from the experienced runners on here will no doubt be spot on 😀
