5k time, what would you post??!

So what do you post as the 5k time? Yes I did have to stop at a couple of roads. It also takes me a while to put my phone away safely after starting Strava and a while to retrieve it after I’ve stopped. This one is a bit worse than usual as I dithered about route a couple of times too and had to stop for 30 seconds or so for bowel control (tmi I’m sorry) Decisions, decisions. One day I’m getting under that 30mins no ifs or buts.

Ask someone to treat you to a nifty little garmin on your next birthday then you'll see you are truly flying. Amazing times, well done. Happy running 🤗

Would love to be able to wear a smart watch, but due to arthritis it’s way too painful. My question is can I post my time as the moving time or do I use the elapsed time. Usually I use moving as it’s very close to elapsed but this time not so much and I know I did stop briefly once that wasn’t traffic based.

Personally I press start when I take the 1st step and stop when I finish. If I’ve stopped for traffic, social distancing or anything else that’s included in my time for that run. Somehow I feel that’s not the answer you want though.

Hey... you've done well.

My best ever time was 36min but dependent upon terrain its anything usually from 45min to 50min to cover 5km.

Thanks, but do I post moving time or elapsed time. Not sure if posting moving time is somehow cheating!?

Moving Time is what our local run club uses for virtual run competitions xx

Ditto for me, L, similar timings...and as they say, practice makes ones timings get a wee bit better bit by bit...hang in there...I am!

I’d post the moving time of 29:55 because you did very well maintaining an average pace of 5:58. So very well done. Stopping for traffic and social distancing is tough. I press pause on my watch when I stop for traffic and the I press start again to reactivate the run. I personally post moving time myself. I don’t think it’s cheating. If you were at a 5K or 10K race the crowd would pull you along and you wouldn’t be stopping. Also you’d be getting an official time, a moving time based on crossing the start line and crossing the finish line.

At parkrun, or charity runs, you’re gonna get something akin to the elapsed time as you’re unlikely to position yourself at the front for the start... if you were chip timed you’d get something more like the moving time. Personally, I’d turn auto pause off... and take the total time of the splits to 5k... but that’s just me, you’re only competing with yourself here.

I hate to say it but if I was trying to go under 30, I’d be at the front at the start line in Parkrun, I need all the help I can get 😂. Usually I do start near the back, our parkrun is not too busy and the start is quite wide. I was going to post the time in notParkrun, I think I may split the difference and call it even!! I’ll see how my next run goes, with a different route.

There is that 🤣. I’ve heard an argument that anyone going for a PB should go to one side of the start line if also not super speedy.
