Long run strategy

Today I ran my first 6k following Ju Ju’s magic plan mixed in with my own long run strategy... Bowie on world off and run... and breathe...

Had a good run and Mr Bowie regaled me with lets dance as I approached my goal... running is one thing dancing something else 😀

What else is everyone listening to?

I love it when the right song comes on just as you need it! I had been using the fairly terrible default music via Laura's podcast (We Two? The Arctic Sea- Monkeys?) but on Week 8 I switched to the app and played PJ Harvey's Hope Demolition Project under Jo Wiley's spiel. The subject matter is pretty bleak and mainly about war, but a song called the Wheel would usually kick in during my last minute. It's one of those songs that starts with a bang and never relents. It gave me wings to run a little faster. I could feel the endorphins kicking in, which was exhilarating as I'm a slow plodder for most of the run.

I once was running, during week 4 or 5, and as I was struggling with a hill just before the recovery walk was due. Queen’s Sheer Heart Attack came on... so its not always good when the music matches the run 😂

I sometimes listen to podcasts. Other times I run without my phone and without listening to anything other than nature. And sometimes I run listening to a Spotify playlist I made up myself with 300 songs including everything from Bowie, The Jam, The Smiths, The Cure, Artic Monkeys, Arcade Fire, The Pixies, Stone Roses, Pavement, Blur, The Strokes, Radiohead, Kasabian, The Doors and many many more. Most of it music I loved in my teens, 20’s and 30’s. I’m 46 now, I still love the music I was really into in my younger days. Music has a way of making you feel young.

I like that... music has a way of making you feel young...

It definitely does but it also has a way of making you realise how old you are! I have albums that are over 40 years old that I bought in my teens the music makes me feel young, the age of that music makes me wonder where that 40 years went.

Yeah, or you see one of your favourite bands from your teens have a Reunion and realise the years have caught up on them. And then you look in the mirror yourself. 😂 Robert Smith looks tragic now as a Cure Head. The look doesn’t work for him anymore. 😀
