A report on the second run with barefoot minimalist shoes.

Clearly the first 5Km run (see my post '(not)New Shoes for a (not)Parkrun') with the Tesla barefoot shoes changed my form somewhat, and the tension and slight ache in the Gastrocnemius (calf), and maybe the Plantaris and Soleus, that developed over the hours following, indicated that this was good exercise for muscles not used as much as they should be.

On this second run, just 3.5Km between downpours, I had no ache, although it developed in the hours after, but has completely gone 24 hours later.

My thinking is that I am lucky to have feet with a good Plantar Fascia and arch, and that the last two years running have strengthened the foot and ankle. Although the muscles in the lower leg have developed too, the raised heels of my Saucony and Brooks shoes have assisted them. Taking away this assist the other muscles are having to bear the load, and are stepping up nicely.

One thing was noticeable, I was much less confident of my footing running down-hill on a green lane with loose stones. Mostly this is the lack of any cushioning.

My new On Cloudventure shoes have now arrived. I love them to bits - wearing them in indoors today. Can I force myself to continue the barefoot, say, once a week?

Love to you all.

ToF.

Goodness me ToF. Have you now got more shoes than Imelda Marcos!? 😁

I have 3 pairs of running shoes, the Saucony had broken up - went in the bin. The Brooks are well over their recommended 500Km, but still good, I have them kept as reserves.

I wore them all morning to be sure. They are good.

I guess using 2 pairs of such contrasting shoes regularly should exercise a wider range of muscles.
