Starting Bridge to 10k/1 hour - breathless!

Hii, I’ve just finished week one of bridge to 10k and I’m finding that I’m really breathless after each run with lots of coughing and wheezing (my partner describes me as muttley - haha!). I would’ve thought that after C25K my breathing would be better but it only seems to keep getting worse. Is this me breathing wrong during my run or might something else be the cause? Thanks!

I would speak to my GP about it as a precaution.

This is my plan for Monday, I’ve heard of Exercise Induced Bronchoconstriction but not sure if this would be the case

I agree with ForestGrump63 see your gp - a very short time catching breath fine, breathless - no. Could be something simple like hayfever but do get checked. Good luck 🤗

Thank-you! I do have a lot of allergies so this definitely could be a thing, thanks for the advice 😊

See GP and make sure you are still running slowly enough.

You've come a long way!! Look at you 😁

Well done on your progress. Just take it steady, it could be the heat we have had lately too. Allergies etc also. I hope you get to the bottom of things and it's something that can be rectified.

Thank-you! I hope it is just allergies or the weather, fingers crossed I can get to the bottom of it so running is (slightly) easier haha!

The heat and humidity don't help with the breathing. I get mild asthma (usually mostly linked to allergies) and it's always worse in humid weather.

As others say it's worth getting it checked out.

Sorry to hear of your problems and hope you get to the bottom of them. I’ve found I’m getting slower during consolidation and don’t feel as if I have as much energy. It might just be the heat, but I’ve stopped early twice, which I didn’t do at all during the programme. It could just be the lack of a definite target though as it’s easier to give up now! Having managed 5k, though it takes me 37-38 minutes, I thought I would continue to get gradually faster, as I did throughout weeks 7-9, but I haven’t which is disappointing. I don’t really want to do 10k, or even run for 60 mins, 40 mins is plenty!! I’ll keep at it and maybe it will all come together again

Yeah I totally feel the lack of energy - my legs feel like dead weights but I keep sticking to mind over matter! I had to stop early one day because it was so hot, I was meant to do 35 mins but could only hack 25 but my body’s ability to regulate its temperature is 0. I’ve managed to do a faster 5k in around 32/33 mins but I’m just trying to focus on upping my stamina more. Yeah, I think it’s just perseverance. After C25K it feels like you lose a bit of momentum but I guess we just have to keep going! I hope it gets slightly easier for you

Hi. I finished c25k a few weeks ago and have also been doing consolidations runs 2/3 times per week. I have had diff results and have also founds runs harder than during programme and on a couple of occassions had to walk 5-8mins before 30. I seem to have hit a wall ? Do I need to rest as every run is a push? How have you been getting on ? Any tips ?
