Are you speeding up? It takes a body several months to build a strong base for running so ease gently into your running future.

Also, are you warming up and stretching afterwards? This might be the time to invest in a foam roller. It’s especially good for tight calves but learn how to use it properly and use it regularly from now on. You can use a tennis ball too.

I agree with everything Irishprincess says. Also drink plenty water. Dont push yourself too fast too soon. Good luck and happy running 🤗

Calf injuries were a particular problem for me when I started, it does take a while to build up the necessary endurance and strength. I found that regularly doing eccentric heal drops on the stairs, stretches the calves out and improves their strength. You will find loads of instruction on YouTube.

Cheers

I should also say, wait for your calf injury to repair before starting any heal drops!! :-)

I had the same experience during parkrun a few weeks after my graduation, trying to go to too far, too fast, too soon. It turned out to be my Soleus muscle and a physio gave me exercises to strengthen it and after a few week off I had to regain distance Again slowly. I think post graduation, we don’t realise that the body hasn’t quite caught up with our ambitions.

Do look up strengthening exercises on the nhs website and if it happens again, stop running ( you should never run through pain) and seek expert advice.

Hope you are out again soon.
