My first 10K and a lesson learnt

I've been quiet on the forums for a few weeks, but am still lurking, getting tips and being impressed by everyone's resolve to get fitter. I graduated in early April and have been consolidating for the past month. My intention was to keep running 5K all over summer. Today, I went for a run, and kept running because it felt so comfortable. So I'm pleased to announce that I've just done my first 10K - it wasn't rushed, and was quite slow tbh - I managed it in 1hr:18m

Daft ar$e here learned a BIG lesson from this run - don't stop dead when finishing to check on my recovery time.

DO carry on walking and keep the blood pumping while your system settles down. Stopping all of a sudden can cause a drop in blood pressure, which can cause dizziness, fainting etc. As soon as the dizziness hit me, I instinctively knew to walk, and was OK a few seconds later. I've learned my lesson.

I've got another two runs to do this week, but will be sticking to the 5K and don't intend to overdo it.

Strangely, the route I took appears on my Garmin dashboard as a Bart Simpson look alike, so I took the liberty of adding an eye and mouth 😁

Great 10k and a brilliant time and yes I found out one day about stopping suddenly from a run . I'd just finished running and seen a friend stop to talk to her and I started spinning. Seen her again and ran by and text her with an explanation of why I didn't stop.

And a bit of Simpsons art as well. Have a great day 🌞🌞
