W9 R1 - lessons learnt

I was really looking forward to my first step on the bridge to 10km. I went with my excitement rather than my brain!!! So....I decided, I’ll run 10mins then jog the 1 min and do this four times! The programme did require run 10 walk 1 yet I “knew” better......WRONG! I also somehow didn’t do the math well! Somehow I thought 40min altogether...NO!!! 44 mins! 14more than what I was used to running (C2—->5k)....so what actually happened was after my run I was beyond exhausted! I also nearly threw up!!!

Lessons learned....follow programme and use brain more than excitement. Pace myself so I can get to F5k2—->10K!!!

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll feel great that I did it. Now I can hardly keep myself alert! I’m still so tired!

:)))

Hi me2019,

Yes thats quite a step up, having Graduated just 4 days ago!😧

Have you seen this guide 'what to do next' which has useful information including consolidating. Just 30 minute runs for a couple of weeks to strenghen everything up. Here is the link...

The 10 min run 1 minute walk sessions build up quite quickly to a lot of running in a week. Take a look at Ju ju's 10 is the Magic number plan, its more manageable and fun. This has worked for many of us. Here is the link...

Happy running 😊 x

I think many of us have learnt along the way. You are not alone 😊. Enthusiasm just takes over. But we learn and that’s what’s important. Keep it slow and steady for a good few weeks once your legs are recovered. And Yay for enthusiasm. It can be a devil but it’s just what we need too at times.

Brilliant interval session though - just a bit early...

Thank you! You’re right. I took a look at JuJu’s programme and I’m going to give it a go. I think what I did today was a little foolish....I am wiser now :))))

You can use free apps such as Strava or Mapmyrun to record your run, in order to see the distances you run, apologies if you know this already.😊x

Well you did it and now know you can do it. So well done and next time you feel like maybe you can’t rememer you can. That’s what I do. Each time I feel beyond exhausted like after my first parkrun and today after my first 6k i think well you did it and therefore you can do it again and maybe even further eventually. 😉

Well done on completing C25K. I can recommend Ju-Ju’s plan 😀👍

I’m glad a read this, I’m due to complete W9R3 of C25K on Saturday, and was planning on heading straight to the 10K forum & programme, I will certainly rethink and look at Ju-Ju’s plan. Thanks for sharing.

You’re welcome. I’m looking forward to my run tomorrow. JuJu’s programme. It seems to be more gradual than the 10K programme I downloaded. Good running on your next run and Well Done with 5k!! :)
