1st Run in Week 1

I started today!! I was unsure what to do after C25K which I finished about 5 weeks ago and was given some great advice on this forum this morning... So after my sleep

Post night-shift I headed out down the tow path for the 20min run! I feel happy to have a plan to follow but I’m unsure how to plan the long run each week with out the Voice in my Ear- Laura! How do I know how long I have ran and how much to go? Do I need a watch instead of my phone? Thanks :)

Well done starting week 1. Ah, a watch to buzz is useful, shows the distance and loads of other things too. I guess if you are going for time you could put an alarm on your phone? Happy running 🤗

Great for getting started, just set an alarm on your phone for the time you want to run. If you carry your phone in your pocket put vibrate on as well. Good luck Daroo😊👍

There are several free apps that will keep track of runs and have an alarm system for either time or distance that you can set. I used Run Keeper but lots of people like Strava (and there are others). They usually offer a fancier version you can pay for but I never bothered. You can get a voice in your earphones to say each km or each interval - say 5 minutes - and usually keep a map of where you’ve been & the distance. The reliability of the maps and distances is a bit dubious sometimes but good enough for most purposes unless you’re very into stats! Best thing is probably to try one & have a play with it, then change if you don’t like it. Happy running. The Magic Ppan is fab. 😊

If you have a smartphone you can download an app called Strava, and set it up to let you know when you’ve done each km. it uses GPS and shows a map of where you’ve run. I started this way, but eventually bought a sports watch which can also download to Strava at the end of each run.

Thanks, I have Strava so I’ll have a look at it and see what I can set up on it.

There are some post C25k podcasts available by NHS Choices Audiofuel which help - I’ve used the Stepping Stone one which is a 30 minute run with a voice giving advice and tells you how long you’ve got left. After this there are speed sessions. Helped me as I felt a bit lost without Laura in my ear post C25k.
