It’s the 2nd of May. A beautiful morning for a run. No parkrun still unfortunately or for some time to come. So the next best thing is a Virtual parkrun. Just a 5K run in your locality pretending that you are running along and getting passed out by a field of runners. Just like to real thing. 😀 Well for me anyway. So between 9-9:30 am this morning I’m looking forward to running my local 5K route. Enjoy your running today everyone and please use this post to report back on your Virtual parkrun.

No drinking whiskey on the wall last night with my Neighbour so I’m ready for it this morning.😀

Cheeky is probably just coming in the door about now after her Virtual parkrun.

I’ve been back for 25 minutes damienair - I was looking for your post! 😅

Wow, what an amazing morning here in Bristol. Perfect running conditions - a lovely nip in the air, bright sunshine and a helpful cooling breeze (which non-runners would probably find chilly!). ☀️☀️☀️

I was happy with my run. My usual route, of course, but I wondered how my pins would feel after running an unplanned 10k yesterday. (They were happy 👍). I had an email from Simplyhealth about the Bristol 10k which was meant to be tomorrow (😥) saying that we could submit evidence and get our bling. No brainer - I have a new medal to look forward to. 🏅🏅🏅

Happy Virtual PRs everyone. 😘

Well done Cheeky. And well done on your 10K yesterday. Enjoy your bling.

Thanks Damien. The email only came on Thursday, and the run had to be completed by the 4th. A spontaneous 10k is something I never thought I’d be able to do. 😀

Hi Damien, this morning at 9.30 I will be running my 7th virtual parkrun around a route near to where I live, the route begins just 10 minutes away from my home,(nice warm up walk ) parallel to a road but with trees and bushes between the path and the road, then continues past a cul de sac of about 20 houses, then through a short wood, under a underpass past a children's playground, but not seen anyone playing in it, after that I run around a scenic loch, through woods, back along the otherside of the loch until the 5K is reached, like where you are it's a brilliant sunny morning, I will be wearing my Vitality Parkrun T shirt.

A chilly morning, with dew on the grass. I was supposed to be running in the Belfast Marathon tomorrow. 😓. Instead, my running buddies are doing virtual 5k intervals. We have passed Dublin already, and heading for Wexford in a virtual Ultra.

Completed my virtual parkrun this morning, and aiming for another run tomorrow, maybe 15/20k. For the day that's in it.

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply to Teresa1632

Wow very well done. The Virual 5K intervals is a great idea. So sorry you missed out on the Marathon. A Cousin of mine ran the Belfast Marathon a few years ago in a 3 piece suit so as to try and break a Guinness world record. He did it. But then again he could run a Marathon in under 2:30. Well done on your run and best wishes for tomorrow’s run.

Yes, cheeky was out ages ago! 🤣 We’ll be out in a bit. I may beat Katnap today as he did an impromptu HM yesterday (who does that???!!). 8/15 in the parkrun quiz, slipped a bit, too much talk of Denmark 🇩🇰. See you again soon Damien! 👍

Hello Damien, glad to hear that there was no hangover to contend with today.

My parkrun consisted of doing the parkrun quiz whilst in bed (my new Saturday morning routine). 10/15 and we also fell for the Denmark trap TailChaser . 😂😂

UpTheStanley will, no doubt, follow with his run later.

Well done on the quiz. I must check it out some day. I’m going to start increasing my distance next week. I need to get back up to 10K. Enjoyed the run this morning, well when I crossed the finish line anyway.

Just back from mine - loving the flexible start times!

Not a fast one this morning, 32.35, but I am pleased with it. Today was a steady non-stop run, including up the hill at the start that I normally walk as a warm up😊

No real incidents apart from at one crossroads where suddenly 5 runners converged from different directions (including another park runner). We all seemed a bit confused as to which way to go to maintain social distancing, and the lonely dog walker who got caught up in the middle looked rather concerned.

Glad though that we can still go out to run, especially on a beautiful morning like this.🌞

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply to SueKen

Well done. It was a beautiful morning to be out there. There were a few runners and walkers out on my route too, but it was easy to separate and socially distance.

Zoom cocktail party with Shake-and-run last night, so a rather dismal 1k speed challenge time of 5.36 but a creditable 30.46 for my virtual parkrun in my VRWC t-shirt and bright sunshine. Happy parkrun day everybody!

We are back, it was the perfect run after the usual busy week at work

A nice warm up round the track which was lovely surrounded by green trees and a few dog walkers and cyclists. We headed past the disused golf course and towards the sea, the sun hot on our backs and a nice sea breeze to cool us

Busy on the seafront heading west towards the official parkrun route so we turned for home.

Willow was pleased with 4k a little in front of me and I carried on to a slow and steady 5k thinking of everyone here running a virtual 5k this morning

Happy with that 😀and lovely to come home and read everyone else’s morning runs

SueAppleRun profile image

Sshh don’t tell Willow he lives jet washing, I’m going to look at the garden and decide if I want to dig a bit more and spend as much time outside as possible because being stuck inside in a mask and visor most the week is stifling

I’m back in from the 3rd running of the Johnstown/Athlumney parkrun. It was a gorgeous morning but the parkrun crowd this morning were very loud and chatty at the start line. I felt very sorry for the run director. I thought initially that it was a little over the top when he came along with a megaphone 📢 but in fairness he needed it. After the run brief we were off. I kept up a good pace and thankfully was not passed out by too many fellow runners. I sprinted to the finish and collected my finish token. For the second week out of 3 I collected finish token number 1. First place finisher again. Delighted with myself. But I didn’t go home straight after. I hung around to applaud and encourage the other parkrunners and only left after the tail walker crossed the line. Great weather, great morning, great crowd and another great Virtual parkrun.

Finish time was 27:47.

Good report from you Damien, for my 7th virtual parkrun this morning I saw 12 other runners, none passed me, my pace was 6.48/km and I completed it in 33.43 compared to 32.37 time of last week, nevertheless I enjoyed the run. 🏃🏾

Groundhog Day!

Can you believe it, exactly the same time for the 5K as last week. :) But no badge unfortunately :(

My Garmin came on before I left the driveway today. I had switched it on nice and early because it usually has problems picking up in the village. Walked down to start the 1km warm up run and Garmin did something strange. Apparently it took me over 10 minutes to the bottom of the hill. I know I take it slowly on the steep gravelly bit but not that slowly. Besides Geoff did it in 6.45 and says I was only a couple of minutes after him. The graph shows that I stopped running completely for a couple of minutes, but the distance is about right compared to previous weeks and Geoff's watch.

Oblivious to this at the time, I reset the watch ready for the non-parkrun proper.

Nothing remarkable to report, although I did stop to take the photos of the horses - see separate post. I even remembered to Pause and more importantly Resume the Garmin!

The route wasn't quite as busy as last week. The weather started dull after the overnight rain but the sun came out while we were running.

At the end we walked back up eagerly looking forward to our bacon, egg and mushroom butties.

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply to RunaroundSue

Lovely run report as always and well done on your Groundhog Day. Hope you enjoyed the butties.

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10

Update:

I looked at the time on my watch and both runs showed better times than on the Connect App. Geoff suggested that I try syncing again, but when I went back to the App the times had changed! And the graph/cadence charts were continuous.

So not a Groundhog Day after all.

But very confused.

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply to RunaroundSue

It’s a Virtual parkrun, so the virtual Groundhog Day still stands. Just like my first place finish.😀

Here we go then Damien: Katnap was taking it steady as there wasn’t much in his legs and I suddenly came down with a funny tummy but we tried our best. I took the big hill pretty well this week and there were less human obstacles than last week! However, second week running I ran out of steam on my 1k speed section. We still managed to just come in at under 30 minutes so I’m happy. When we got home I checked my stats and my average bpm was a ridiculous 181, so no wonder I ran out of steam! I don’t know what happened there as it’s not been bad recently. It must have been the funny tummy 😫

Sandie1961 profile image
Sandie1961Graduate10 in reply to TailChaser

My 1k time was pretty rubbish this morning - 16 seconds slower than last week and only 2 seconds faster than week 1. Last week coming up so think I’ll stay off the booze on Friday evening and see if I can finish the challenge with a PB!

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply to Sandie1961

We’d better get talking to Shakes then Sandie, but you did have an excellent reason for a booze up last night!

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply to TailChaser

Poor you. A sub 30 min 5K with a dicky tummy is a great result. Hope your feeling better. I’m just in from spending the afternoon jet washing the driveway. Spent 50% of the time chatting to neighbours. I’m filthy, muck is everywhere. Shower time.

Well here we are again - doesn't seem like a week since the last one! Quite uneventful but one nearly exciting moment - my daughter's doing c25k at the moment and when running near her house I thought I'd spotted her in the distance. However as she told me later, she'd been out at 7am to complete week 3 - there'll soon be 3 runners in the family! Another slight reduction in my time (28.02) and only slight swelling from the foot afterwards - I think the new shoes must be helping👍

Update: Damien, it is possible that Ireland MAY resume parkruns before the UK does.

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply to AlMorr

I won’t hold my breath. I think we could be back in lockdown before too long. Morons won’t be able to help themselves. People who have never gardened in their lives and even people without gardens will be in Garden Centres when they open on the 18th of May. Any increase in infection rates will cause the government to tighten up on the restrictions again. The same people who were buying 6 months supply of toilet roll 7 weeks ago will be buying 2 years supply of potted plants in 2 weeks time.😂

I can see the reports on the news already.

Damien

Dexy5 profile image

Yes I resorted to buying my compost from Waitrose along with some food shopping because I couldn’t face the idea of queuing at B&Q with the hordes. I’m going to have to face it sometime though. At least if garden centres were open it would spread everyone out a bit.

Hi Damien, I'm behind the curve this week, simply didn't feel the urge yesterday …… nor this morning really, but Dexy5 bullied me into getting my kit on, and came out on her bike to supervise :-(

So in for a penny, might as well try something challenging to make up for Thursday's speed challenge failure, and haven't been sub-24 since New Year's Day. Started too quick into a slight breeze and was blowing myself almost immediately, first k 2 secs inside schedule (4'46"), second k left me 3 secs behind (9'39"), back exactly on track at the turn at 3k (14'24") and still there after 4k (19'12") with the wind behind now for the last push ……

Wind or not, didn't think I was going to last and was mentally working out how much I had to spare for sub-25, but Coach started chirping in my ear and trying to get away from her :-) pushed me to 4'32" for the last k and a 2020 best 23'43" overall. She then produced an excellent post-parkrun brunch of poached egg, crispy bacon and avocado on toast, with cappuccino to follow ….. so all's well with my world, until my legs seize up this evening.

Keep save everyone, onwards and upwards!!

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply to UpTheStanley

Your one lucky man UTS. A great Lady who makes amazing poached eggs and paces you on her bike to a 2020 PB and not even a sub 25, but a sub 24 minute 5K. Amazing. Very very well done. My dream is a sub 25 minute parkrun. I have a parkrun PB of 25:36, but I’m a long way off that now. I need to start doing some longer slower runs for endurance, lose a little weight and do some speed work.

Damien

UpTheStanley profile image
UpTheStanleyGraduate10 in reply to damienair

You’ll get there no bother once you’ve got parkrun back to motivate you. As you know, I reckon shorter and quicker rather than longer and slower is the route to PBs 😀
