Hi all, just after a bit of advice. As I was out for a run this morning, one of the dog walkers stopped to allow me to pass, which I thanked him for. When passing him, he said for me to keep my elbows tucked in, which again I thanked him for (why I don’t know). I have never been particularly conscious of what my arms are doing and I don’t think they stick out. Is this some running technique I should be doing ? Im a fairly new 5k graduate and a little paranoid that my technique is all wrong . Some advice would be appreciated please !
What do I do with my arms ? : Hi all, just... - Bridge to 10K
What do I do with my arms ?
Nice for some advice but I’m fairly new graduate too. The only advice I know about arms is bend them, hands should be like holding a packet of crisps or a baby chick and obviously move them. Arms give momentum. Maybe a more experienced person can shed more light for you. Good luck. 🏃🏻♀️🙂
He probably meant arms back and forth....... so your elbows need to be tucked in ...,,elbows out means you may be moving your arms across the body which you dont want. Shoulders down, back and relaxed to let the breathe in.... particularly important when tackling hills. Hands relaxed. Its also good not to carry anything in your hands as this can cause an imbalance. Enjoy!
Just noticed this is your first post, hello and welcome!
Millsie-J is absolutely right (of course), but I seem to recall Liz McG and Paula R had their elbows all over the place, and they didn’t do too badly 😀
Hi. Welcome to the forum... But sorry I don't really. Apart from your arms can be used for momentum.
Happy running
