I’m spending a couple extra days at the boat this week for some much needed RnR. It’s hot and breezy but I ran a great 9 k yesterday. It was supposed to be a 8k run but thanks to being physically and mentally fatigued, I actually ran it at the recommended pace without having to think about slowing down. When RunKeeper told me I had finished my workout, I was still a kilometre away from the marina and still felt like I had some pep in my step so I kept going. I ran up the steep hill just outside the marina with ease....it felt great, a much needed stress relief. I came across my friend who lives at the lake year round launching her son’s new kayak so we made a plan to do a hike this morning up my favourite trail that is actually part of my race this fall. It’s pretty steep in places and as much as I hope to get enough training in this summer to run up the inclines, it’ll be a challenge! We had a great hike, a wonderful catch up, and only found 1 tick crawling up my leg when I returned to the boat (and saw no snakes on the trail, phew)! I hate ticks so I promptly hopped in the shower, closely scrutinized my clothes for more and relegated my runners to outside. What a great rest day activity (minus the annoying ticks 😧). The stress is melting away......
The perfect rest day activity for me - Bridge to 10K
The perfect rest day activity for me
Sounds like a wonderful few days. That hiking country looks fabulous too. Glad you have had some quality RnR. You and your friend have lovely, happy smiles.
Thanks Annie. It has been great. Even the wind was enjoyable today - keeping the mosquitos away and the body cooler given it was already above 20C at 8 am 😅. I should be able to get another run in tomorrow before I head home for the next week and a half. It’s quite quiet and peaceful here before summer holidays hit! Gotta enjoy it while I can 😁
Looks lovely! Where is that?
It’s at Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park in Canada. People always think the Canadian prairies are fields of flat farmland but we have some pretty hills and coulees around here being by the river valley. I grew up in the mountains in British Columbia so really miss the lush green trees and snow peaks but have really come to love the beauty that Saskatchewan has to offer.
Lovely pics Allie, sounds like you both enjoyed your favourite trail walk and catch up...
Well done on your 9k yesterday too, a good strong run😊xxx
Brilliant SaskAlliecat ..you’ve had a great run there & I can feel your sense of acheivement in this post...just what we need to keep us going..fabulous x
You sound really positive here Sask. Enjoying it is everything. Keep making time for yourself. That looks like a beautiful place to run or hike.
Thanks Decker. It really is quite pretty. Looking forward to exploring a bit more off trail late summer when the creepy crawly friends are less of an issue.
Yeah I guess they come with the package 🕷
Ugggh; unfortunately yes 😩. I see they have warning signs up now at the trail head. Fortunately the numbers do eventually dwindle, I just wish it was sooner rather than later. There’s some amazing off road trails part of the longer race I’m just itching to try and they’re having their trail prep weekend next weekend.... so we’ll see. The trails are pretty thin that they cut though. It’s brushing the adjacent grass that’ll get you and cutting through the shrubs 😖
Great post, great photos, great run. Ticks and snakes - yikes!
