I know I've been pushing towards it lately, and having reduced my 10k PB down to 1:02:07 last time out, and having not had the best couple of days, the last thing I expected was to go out and better that time tonight. If truth be told, I wasn't even sure I was going to run that far tonight but, once again, my legs seemed to have a will of there own and as the kilometres clicked by, I realised something was going to happen, and when I reached 6k in a shade over 36 minutes, I knew it was potentially on.
The final 4k flashed by in just under 23 minutes and I "broke the tape" at 58 minutes 58 seconds. The result of this means that my PBs are now:
- 5k - 28:04
- 10k - 58:58
- 10 miles - 1:44:54
- HM - 2:21:21
I'm not quite sure where this new burst of pace has suddenly come from, but needless to say I'm absolutely delighted with it.
I need to set myself some new year end goals, but that's a nice "problem" to have, I guess...
As always, stay safe.

When you consider that this time last year, I'd just finished the last interval run (W6R2) of C25K, it just shows what a good plan can help you achieve.
Brilliant run. I was on the trail of my first sub 60 min before the dreaded IC struck. I have noticed in previous years that many of us have a burst of good times in Spring and Autumn, so you may not be done yet!!👏👏👏👏🥂🏆
Meteoric rise then. Fantastic!! Yesterday I found a way of stabilising my knee. For the first time in eight days it didn’t swell up and there was no pain. 🤞
When I started, I ran with my left knee heavily strapped up (old rugby injury from my 20s). I wore it on Tuesday for the first time since about August last year, as I was feeling slightly twingey and didn't want to risk it, and it was fine. Overall, the running has actually done my knee a world of good.
I did a bit of speed work adapting the C25K W1 and W2 podcasts where I jogged the walking bits then ran flat out for the running sections, and that helped. But I was the same as you, I'd go for spells where my time was fairly constant run after run, then suddenly I'd find an extra burst of speed/ strength that shaved some time off. My first sub-30 5k was the 40th one I ran. Typically I run them in about 32-33 minutes and save my sub-30s for when I'm really pushing myself.
