Cakes and Babies ❤️

Hope everyone is getting through these strange times and keeping okay. The gremlins have been having a good time lately and I’ve only managed two small runs this week, its been difficult keeping my distance from the many people out and about and having to avoid them and run in the road so tomorrow its my garden running. Thank goodness for my yoga with Adriene, over halfway through the 30 day challenge now. Its already two weeks into lockdown and my turn for the supermarket shop this week and after a 30 minute queue to get through the door was disappointed to see the shelves were still missing the basics flour, soap etc and were looking very sad. I was feeling annoyed until I saw them! unmistakably Jaffa Cakes and Jelly Babies! What a treat. Not had a Jaffa Cake for years ❤️ just delish.

Its been a week for childhood memories as I was watching The Repair Shop the other night (they are such fantastic craftsmen and women) and saw a little push along horse on wheels they restored, which reminded me of my push along dog I had when I was little and when I googled the toymaker Triang saw a photo of the merry go round we used to have in our never used front room up for auction. My eldest brother and I spent hours pulling those handles hurtling round at speed (this was early 60’s before we got TV) trying to throw each other off 😂. Little brother was no challenge as he was too light and too easy to chuck off we used to call him a marda**e anyway. Sibling love eh? am feeling a bit out of sorts with all the changes, but thank goodness for running even if they’re only short ones, the fresh air and the wonderful weather we’ve been having here is very welcome (even the level of the stream at the end of our road is very low) take care and stay safe and Happy running and Happy Easter x

There's a connection you can't ignore, Jaffa Cakes in your DNA.

I'm okay lexi thanks, just extremely tired.

Just natures way of enforcing rest.

Enjoy the garden run😘

Dead jealous. Sadly chocolate orange is not considered an essential food here. They have no idea!

in reply to lexi6

That's sooooo wrong they have no idea just what they're missing Lexi 🙄

I love Jaffa Cakes, especially around 2.30/3pm with a nice coffee as well, I am managing very well thank you, I am doing my running and shopping at very quiet times when there are not many people around, usually before 9am, there were only two people in the store I go to on Tuesday morning, the only time I do a run after that time is a Saturday at 9.30am that is the time of parkruns in Scotland.

Glad to hear that you are managing at least 2 runs a week, nice that you are enjoying your joga with Adrien.

May I wish you a very happy Easter if happy is the word in those troubled times.

No essentials? They had Jaffa Cakes! Who needs flour? Mmmmm

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10 in reply to BaddieThePirate

😂😂 totally re-addicted to them now Baddie and once we’re out of lockdown, the British shop, (only just discovered it) will re-open. Will probably need to train for a HM to run all that chocolate off. 😊

Ooh! The Repair shop...we love it too.

They are brilliant aren't they.😍

We had that horse race game 'escalada' that someone brought in to the repair shop once, my brother and I used to play that on the dining room table.

I love the Yoga with Adriene too, she is such a calming influence... makes me feel good physically and mentally.

Jaffa cakes...not so much..a bit dry for me. I used to enjoy a wagonwheel though when they were massive! Ooh now I fancy a walnut whip....😏

No chocolate in the house at the moment.

Sunshine here and birdsong, and spring flowers...🌷

Stay safe Lexi and family. ❤xxxx

Oh I remember that game BBr, loads of fun. My gripe is how the packaging size of all these goodies has shrunk over the years. I always buy chocolate oranges at Christmas and one year they were 175g the next year 157g, same price though! I don’t really eat chocolate, but am definitely going to indulge myself more in the future. Will definitely have to keep on doing Adriene and running though 😂

Hope tomorrow is more of the same for you. You and Mr BBR stay well too xxx

Sorry you are feeling a bit down. I think it probably hits us all at different times in different ways, but glad you have found joy in memories, short runs and chocolate! I queued for 40 minutes to get into Tesco this morning - they have put barriers on so you go up and down the rows like in a theme park to make the queue look shorter - I did comment to the lady in front of me that it was at least cheaper than Disney, but a bit of entertainment would be nice. Made her smile anyway 😃 Have a good Easter 🐣 xx

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10 in reply to Sandie1961

😂😂 getting out for a run definitely helps the moods, even if they’re short ones I have to remember that. At least being in the supermarket queue can be productive, found myself doing heel raises in mine the other day, sure the yoga is helping my balancing. Win win. 😊Take care xx

I can just imagine the people in the queue looking at you and thinking what the heck is she doing 😂

Well done for still getting out lexi. Little things do give pleasure at the moment and discovering jelly babies and Jaffa cakes when you can’t find staple items puts a smile on your face.

The queue at sainsburys was so long in the sunshine this morning that one of the assistants had a trolley with water and squash on it - a shame it wasn’t a full bar 🤪

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10

Mines a double Dexy. Thats so very thoughtful of them. Just hope this British shop I’ve now discovered opens up again after lockdown, 🤞I’ve been studying their catalogue. Ran in the garden today, walked and yoga’d in the living room, not the same but I’m not complaining with all thats going on right now. Hope you and UTS are well.

At least the weather is picking up here lexi6... but there is a down side. I opened the back door to let Molly out into the garden and was whacked full in the face by a smell like a zoo keeper's boots on elephant enclosure day! It's muck spreading time! Yeuk!!

Sorry not a Jaffa cake man....chocolate and orange mixed just doesn't taste right to me. BUT.....made another batch of my Nigel Slater chocolate brownie last night.......now there is a thing of beauty. Heavenly....loads of chocolate, no doubt loads of calories, but the flavour and texture ..... off the scale. Supermarket queue day today.....but it beats having this awful disease!

Take care lexi6😊

Eeew! You describe it so well Beachcomber 🐘😂😂 a bit of a niff thats for sure. I’ve never, ever made brownies but love eating them.I might have to have a go and google Mr Slater’s recipe. Good luck with the queue, I agree there are far worse things. Stay well.

Thanks so much Beachcomber, they look sooooo delicious, hope they’ve left some cocoa powder at the supermarket, while I’m there I might swing by the “is it a biscuit or a cake?” section again. 👍

Hi Lexi.

Running is good for the soul and I am told that Jaffa cakes are good running food. Did you share with Mr Lexi? I hide my jelly babies away from grandchildren.

I had one of those dogs on wheels. Looked like an airedale terrier.

Strange and trying times. 🐕

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10 in reply to Runningroni

Hiya Runningroni I was very generous with the Jaffa cakes, but aint sharing my jelly babies, they’re just for running you understand and are secreted in my running drawer as we speak. I loved that little dog and think it was an Airedale. I’ve still got a photo of me sitting on it and it looks like its wearing a collar with a little bell on it. Hope all is well with you.

I am apparently, according to a psychologist friend, disorientated. Plunged into an alien environment of home working. My secretary is furloughed and whilst I was always aware how much she did to make my job easier, I vastly under estimated what a useless technophobe I am.

Learning new skills every day with varying degrees of success.

I am really lucky living rurally and still have plenty of access to outside space.

Stay safe and well x

Oh! hope you get to enjoy outside and its not all work. I would be just useless at working at home, no willpower and so easily distracted. You too Runningroni keep well x

I'm also finding it hard to get out running at the moment. We don't have a garden or balcony so we have to go out and so the people just make me anxious. I did however manage a virtual 5k Easter race yesterday, very slowly as I hadn't run that distance in a while but happy to have done it. Also, last week I had a craving for Jaffa cakes and got himself to pick them up in the shop! Like you I hadn't had them in years.

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10 in reply to runnergirl89

Its so difficult runnergirl isn’t it? Only managed 15 minutes in the garden today, but glad that I did it. I’ll just wait until lockdown is over and build up again. Well done on your virtual 5k race. I think that we all need to stop denying ourselves and treat ourselves more, especially in these difficult times. Were the Jaffa cakes as you remembered them?

What a find Lexi! Definitely essential, I'm craving jelly babies, but not heading to the shops for a few days yet. Don't know how you manage to save them for running, I suppose you distract yourself with the Jaffa cakes 😁

Think I'll just go and have a peep at that brownie recipe... 🐷

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10

I’ve already peeked at the recipe its mmmmmm! I only go shopping once a week, but I’ve run out of eggs! and cocoa powder, so I need to go tomorrow Nudge nudge, wink, wink. Alas only two jaffa cakes left now but a full packet of jelly babies! 😊
