I’d had hoped to avoid injury but...

I’ve really tried not to get an injury during this return to running. I’ve made progress steadily since August, graduated 5k in November and was on my way to 10k in June.

However last week I noticed a twinge in my left foot, half way down the outside metacarpal. I took a couple of rest days and then went for a walk, it still hurt a little. More rest days and then tried running yesterday. Got as far as 1.5k before I had to stop and hobbled home.

My guess is a stress fracture. 🙁

So that me nit running for at least a couple of weeks. Back onto the bike in the meantime. I’m hoping I’ve stopped before it’s gone to bad.

As always it frustrating, but if I can stay fit while keeping off my foot then hopefully I’ll be back soon enough.

Sorry to hear that, and it sounds as though you were following a gentle progression, so seems very unlucky. Hope it heals soon.

I've been prone to foot injuries in the past so I do try and take it easy. Maybe it's related to my Achilles which had been acting up but it now much better after stretching it out over the past 4 weeks. Time will tell 😀

You weren’t pushing things so I doubt it’s a stress fracture but hey I know nothing.

I’ve had various pains in my feet over the years and many times they seem to have come from nowhere and then disappear again!

Stretch your feet and toes and self-massage your feet and calves. And do your shoes need replaced?

But you’re doing the right thing by resting. Hopefully a rest will do the trick and you can try again in a few days.

I'm hoping it s more muscle than bone, I've had stress fractures in the past and while they been quite painful, they've normally made my feet swell. This hasn't happened in this case, so fingers crossed. A break of a week should make it obvious. 😀
